had a wierd thing happen a couple of times now.
Stopped somewhere and came back to find a pool of coolant underneath. usual paranoia, check everywhere for leaks, find none.
Check water and ive lost a good half litre.
So top it up run it until fans are on, add a few revs etc expecting to see water dripping out somewhere.
None comes out.
So make my way home and paranoidly check water daily to find no loss!
Now 2 weeks later its done the same, gobbed out 1/2 litre with no sign of leaks.
It appears to be front of engine near the thermostat area.
Pipes all checked.
ive had it running with thermostat open yet its not leaking open or shut!
So any idea whats going on to make it randomly leak large quantities of water then stop?
Bit confused

No head gasket issues as far as i can tell as i checked that the first time. Nothing on the tester in header tank, no mayo etc and coolant system doesnt appear to be pressurising. Temps are all fine even when thrashed a bit.
please explain? whats this hole for and why would it spit out water???

They have a hole with a ball bearing in it when the waterpump fails it tends to leak water out of the hole, i noticed this on my new pump i just fitted to my V6 im not 100% on the matter but im sure someone will elaborate..

It should do, but I had the same issue years and year ago. Would suddenly loose loads of water for no reason. It turns out the internal parts would be sealed until a certain water pressure then leak. There is 2 small hole at the top and bottom of the pump, mine started leaking through the bottom one.
Fitted a new complete pump and problem went

Put some talcum powder around the area under the hole in the water pump, if the inner seal goes it leaks water, after passing through all the water pump BEARINGS and washing out the lubricant, if it start rattling seriously stop right away, if you take the belts off you can spin the water pump to see if the bearing grease is getting washed out, a seriously common problem on vauxhalls for some reason, my astra eats a water pump every two years regardless of make, tried GM and all manner of different makes, been through 3 in 5 years!!
I would first check you tank cap, make sure it is getting a good seal otherwise the extra heat when stopped can boil the water.
When the water pump holes start leaking they usually get worse in a hurry.
Kalimex K seal is the best leak stuff I've ever used, and it is permanent!!

well i think ive found the problem or at least part of it ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
had another look under bonnet today to find my alternator belt had disintergrated and now was running on only 2 ribs of the multi V belt, ie about 1/3 of the normal width![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
water pump appeared all fine, no play or anything and the area around the "hole" has nothing coming out of it when running. No sign of the usual coolant leak stains either so its not been happening for ages either.
