Default Newb: Kit car with i think a pinto engine

hi all, i joined this forum because i have a morgan +4 kit car sat in the garage with what i think is a 2.0 pinto engine.

the engine seems standard apart from the weber carb

i joined to find out information on the engine, and to ask advice and guidance on setting the engine up before i try to start it.

i think it has some sort of running in oil in it as it stinks!

i want to change the gaskets, cambelt, and set the valve clearances before i try to start it.

any help and advice to even identify the engine properly would be much appreciated.

cheers

looks like a pinto engine, are you able to take any clearer pics of the head and block, think that might help people identify a bit easier

I'd say thats a pinto, are you doing the work yourself? If so a haynes manual for a pinto engine'd car may benefit you (I know there's one for the mk2 rs model cars), but I don't know what sort of price they go for or how easy it is to get hold of one. I also found this which may help you

It is a pinto

If it has 20 on the block it is a 2 litre

And if the 20 is followed by a 5 its a more desirable block due to thicker cylinder walls I believe, although I also believe it could then be a low compression transit engine which isn't that desirable out of the box (although it still has the thicker cylinder walls).

If you get capri Haynes manual Tht will cover both 1.6 and 2.0 pintos. Id have a look on ebay for a David vizard tuning a pinto as they re like a pinto bible

Yup, it has the 20 on the cambelt cover, so guess it's 2.0 pinto

Cheers for the link

went to set valve clearances and can't even crank it over by hand
