Default compressor problems ??

looking for advice please, i bought a 150l compressor, bought new pressure switch and line that goes from one way valve to the switch.
Fitted it all and up and running, reaches 120psi and shuts off but was always leaking air near the switch, so mate comes over and had a fiddle, tightened a few things and hey presto no more leaking air, happy days NOT !!

Now when it reaches the safety limit and switches off it just stops the motor dead and doesn't blow off like it used to, then when the pressure drops and the switch re engages, the compressor seems stuck, like there is an air lock, i have disconnected the belt and the electric motor spins fine but the pump is locked and then it blows the fuse.

If i then bleed the compressor right down adn change the fuse the pump re engages no problem.

Any ideas please guys.

cheers jason

Has it got any oil in it fella? Its not meant to drian down like it did at first, its now operating fine by the sounds of things so I`d check that first.
Also, why did you change the pressure switch? It seems a bit high pressurising to 8 bar as well, its usually no more than 6?
Try physically switching it off at 6 bar or 90 psi,use it a bit so pressure drops down to say 5 bar then try and fire it again,if it doesnt kick in then i`m not really sure without seeing it.
Do you know what make and model it is?

The blow off valve isn't working, and the compressor is trying to start against tank pressure.

It was probaly managing to blow off enough with the leak, before you fixed it, to start up.

second an issue with the blow off valve

what make is it?

direct drive or belt driven?

mine will amke upto 150 psi but it has an adjustable thingy on it to change the pressure, but i can't remember if it's on the regulator that's seperate to the tank or not

Nail on head there mate, but there is a good chance the air is leaking back throught the NON RETURN VALVE which is a brass fitting thas has a rubber seal like a rowntrees fruit pastel in it.The air leaks back through this pastel along the small pipe which is usually 6mm plastic back into the switch and creates the problem you have.Do not leave the compressor like this as eventually the motor will burn out do to struggling to restart....What make is the compressor??????????

Default Re compressor problem

hi I've had a similar kind of problem as you in the past with my seally compressor. It sounds like to me that you have more than one problem maybe!! Firstly leaking pressure switch. I had the same thing it turned out to be just dirt and crap inside the switch which I cleaned out. once I removed it I also gave the non electrical moving parts a squirt with WD 40 after that it was fine!!

Compressor unit. it sounds to me like your non return valve to the tank may be stuck open hence filling the cylinder with pressure explaining why it will not turn over until tank is drained and no pressure is present as long as you have oil in it and it's not heat seziing. both of these problems will cause the motor to overload and blow the fuse whilst trying to turn the compressor over!! also it is worth checking both the capacitors in the motor connection box to make sure they are both ok as if one goes down this can also cause the motor to overload and blow the fuse and can also throw the over heat cutout switch open which you then have to reset once it's cooled down enough. This is usually found on the motor connection box!!!

Hope this helps u out maybe.

Stuart

cheers for the replie lads

the black regulator switch thing is new as is the little plastic pipe, so it seems the brass one way valve fruit pastel thingy is possibly the cause then.
what oil do i put on the angine part please

cheers jas

well little update, the black fruit pastel thingy looks well passed it's sell by date lol, so new one of them tomorrow.
played with the black switch box thing and loosened the locking nut and re-assembled the lot, works like it used to now but still leaks at the switch but when i pull the little 6mm pipe from the non return valve it is bleeding air so i think it is the valve at fault.

thank you for all advice recieved
