Well its all pretty much back together now.

The mrs rebuilt the head with new springs and stem seals etc

Stem seals are just new standard ones, springs are Volvo ones which are compatible but are a firmer rate spring so should allow me to rev it harder safely now.

She made up a protector for the face to avoid scratching it while using the spring compressor etc:

Then refitted, I fucking hate doing the collets so was glad she was on hand with her much more nimble fingers to rebuild the head rather than me have to do it!:

Finished article ready to go:

Then we took it over the workshop and bolted it back on and got the cams timed back in, then ran out of time so not got the engine mounts back on or any pipework or manifolds etc.
Shouldnt be more than a few hours work now though before it fires back up again next time we get a chance to go the workshop.

Thanks mate.

Hopefully going to get her to rebuild the head on the Corsa one day in the week as we both have some time off work, so we can yank the head off one morning and she can rebuild it one afternoon while im doing some magazine work, it needs new stem seals and its a good chance to fit new stem seals and some double valve springs so that I can run hotter cams (got some 285 pipers for it)

Sweet mate, I think I'll leave Hannah to do the cooking and I'll stick to fixing the cars lol

Fair play that your mrs gets involved though, there is being interested and then being hands on ! I'm impressed.

She's pretty capable TBH, some stuff I still prefer to do myself like bottom end builds and most of the mapping (although she still tends to help out with those too if she is free), but the simple stuff like head rebuilds or changing a starter or alternator or stuff like that, I just leave her to it as she seems to really enjoy it and it gives me more free time for doing the other stuff.
So far we seem to make a pretty good team really

People like you inspire me! Always looking at things outside of the box, and just goes to show it pays off. As said, bad luck with the gasket, good job that's all it was! I guess you can't grumble for Ł200

chip me old mate, what do you know about saab 9-3 turbo engines? is the HOT different in anyway to the std turbo, e.g. bigger turbo, or is it just in the map (boost limit)?

i'm going to get a 9-3 convertible and wonder if it's worth seeking out a HOT or if any turbo will do and have it chipped.

Been too busy playin renaultsport clios lately tbh as they just work so well on track and that's the main thing that interests us currently.
