Angry How do i trace the owner of a car

in brief, last Oct i was involved in a non fault accident. the guy gave me false details, name address tel, etc all that was correct was the car registration number. i have confirmation that the car had 1 owner from new, and I know who the insurance company was at the time of the accident, but they are telling my insurance co/legal team that he wasn't insured by them. but yet the hire car company and my own insurance company have both been paid, for the accident. any help would be much appreciated 'cos what i need to know is ' is it possible for me to trace the owner just by having the car registration number ' and more importantly how do i do it ?? p.s. my car is FORD FOCUS

Contact the police and inform them of what has happened.

i did on the day of the accident after I had tried to call both the landline and mobile number given, plus i looked up the address he gave me, no such address ......... and after waiting 2 hours to see someone, i was told that i would be cautioned, should i wish to continue with my claim that i had been given false information LOL

The only other way i can think of you getting his details is by sending off a v888 form to the dvla.. boys in blue will probably not be intrested as mentioned above.

The guy has comitted an offence under the road traffic act by failing failing to furnish details following an accident. Straight to the boys in blue and they are obliged to sort it out. C

it's probably the op's insruance company that have piad out and thus it will be down to a claim on the op's policy rather than a non fault claim

getting the guilty party fucked over is what needs to happen, but i don't think this will be the case

well i'm sure the op's legal team have more legal ways of obtaining any details needed rather then the op coming on here asking how to get said details Dojj.

Go to your local plod HQ, and ask to speak to the DATA CONTROLLER, this persons job is to ensure the data protection act is being complied with.
Part of this acts states VERY clearly, "any one with just cause for requiring such, should not be prevented from obtaining such", in normal speak you have a valid reason for wanting needing the info, the plod have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to give you the info, I have used this myself when I was hit and driver drove off.

your insurance company should be dealing with any issues you have with this..
as your insurance company have been paid why do you need any more information ..
