I have a 1.4 cvh 1997 mk6 escort and release bearing has gone and will be changing but want to change gearbox as I feel like 1st and 2nd gears are really short I dont want extra speed as its only 1.4 just want longer 1st and 2nd

What box would be best one from a 1.6 xr2 or xr3 or from a dieasl

Xr2 and xr3 boxes are the same and the diesel one will have a higher final drive so will be good for motorway driving, where is the starter on your gear box? If it's at the back a xr2and xr3 box won't fit as the starter motors are at the front,

The starter is at front im not too fussed about final drive its just first and second really thanks

the xr2 and the xr3 mk4 wont fit the mk6 as they dont have 4 bolt holes on the front for the mount i have 1.8 desiel box out of a mk6 in mine and they are good boxes

New issue with gearbox/drive train I have had a very faint grinding metalic rubbing noise coming from passenger side front which I put down to speedo because it jumps about below 30 but today on way home from work its got a lot worse its only happens when jumping on gas quickly or coming of quickly if I pull of slowly I get no noise but if I try and pull of quick it grinds like a goodan.

Oh and the other thing should mention is that I think a mount has gone as engine jolts under harsh accelaration or deccelaration but cant really see a problem with gearbox mounts
