Thats the problem with the ring. I dont think I have EVER had a bloody clear lap. Hopefully that will change this time as I am NOT going at Easter or during a bank holiday for once. LOL

Just looking at some data logs from last year,

Sketch in his 380hp Evo 8, on R888's was 8:09.
My old E39 528i on Goodyear NCT, stdandard engine was 10:00 flat.

In April I took my Audi S4, Pirelli P Zero, mahoosive 8 pots, 480bhp, 500lb, and i found it a little intimidating! Only did 3 laps as My Dad also did a few and I also went on the Grand Prix track. Best time was a 9:30, I need a lot more practise in a powerful car. I didn't have the bottle to commit in the fast sections, constantly trailing the throttle.

Si B certainly does fucking well on the bravery front in a circa 600bhp car, he seems to have no problem committing 11/10 to flying over blind crests at full boost etc.

Not sure I would be that brave in his car!

I believe he is probably under 8 mins now just about as I timed him at just over 8 mins (8:05 iirc) and that was with a contraflow that lost a good 5-10 seconds going through at 20mph or so in a slow moving queue, because one of the first corners was closed for repair or something.

Nigel/sketch is a pleasure to go out with, really fast and yet also very smooth and technical, didnt realise he was now down to under 8:10 though, thats amazing in a relatively low spec car, he was in the teens the last time I went out with him and timed him and it was hard to see where he could be quicker (well other than losing the 100kg of dead weight timing him i guess!)

That's bloody impressive.

I'm not far under 8 minutes on the PS3... and if it was real life, I'd be sitting in a cube of scrap having accumulated an armco bill running into thousands within a lap.

nige now has better brakes fitted to his car which should help but think he is still under 400bhp but its true about the 2 brothers being a delight to be with doing laps,,,,,, SiB with the " go hard or die trying" attitude and sketch with much more relaxing laps but still VERY fast

shame there isnt another "ring trip" as such this year but tbh funds dont really allow for me at the min anyway

i wont mention my times as we used a calender to time my laps

I think it would also be good to see ballpark power/torque figures for these cars.

Focus RS mk1 running arround 280 bhp

1st lap ever 8 58
best lap 8 24

quite a few of my laps round the ring on utube just type in "dunccoss" and do a search

total laps round the ring is only 10, last lap i did round there my wheel came off at 7 58 with just 2 bends to go and the crash ended the cars life but not mine or my lad so be carefull out there as there is not much space if things go wrong and if it does it will cost you as i all to well know, but it is a great place to go for a few days.

cheers

Agreed, but even when you know the track, you dont know if there is a broken down car after the next crest or not.

Ive done 100s of laps of the ring now as either passenger or driver and know it quite well, but I still dont have that level of commitment with regards to the bits I cant see.

Dont know what my best time personally was, as never timed it but one of the passengers I took out in porkies clio said it was a couple of seconds over 9 minutes and I dont think I was quicker in the saph or the E30 which are the only other cars I have driven it in so far.

Soon to be improved I'm absolutely sure Great invite there too, for me half the trip is the Ring Driving, half the great socialising over good beers and awesome food.

Be good to see a crowd of PF regulars over there

Rick, do your logs have the peak speeds recorded still? Nige / Sketch's later laps on our last trip were brilliant, each time he came off another few seconds were removed.

Sure with more time at the wheel of your super Audi your times will drop dramatically as well

I'm crap on PS3 / XBox stuff, so I'd probably not get under 10 in a Veyron. Thankfully a bit quicker in real life.

I've done probably around 60 now, not sure as never properly counted. Experience deffo counts, that's why some locals in Astra GSis get round as quick as we do

This is a good video

The chap in the 306 was doing about 8 min 30 pace, I was in the Audi S3 that is just seen at the end of the video. We chased the ring taxi over the whole lap, both overtook it and then it nearly had a prang with the clio. I reckon my pace was around 8 min 50
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMVSPUatC0
I was uncomfortable at that pace and was relieved to get to the end!!

It is quite entertaining. I could show you one where he goes off, but that would spoil it. As a passenger, bearing in mind it has 180 bhp max, it is pretty exciting and terrifying at the same time. He has to make up the time on the corners. Ironically, he is the worse passenger in the world. That trip we had a slight coming together going up the long hill a few corners before the carroussel. On a v.quick left kink, I went up the inside as I thought he had seen me. He hadn't and we banged wind mirrors at probably 120 mph. I get reminded of this incident most days as whenever I hit a big bump in my car, my bl@@dy wind mirror glass falls out. Could have been alot worse though.

Will agree can be very daunting, on one of my laps out I had bikers overtaking at speed, one near enough hanging onto the spoiler, even tho I indicated to let him past and a X5 blow up and cut me up and stopped in front of me going up the hill just after the Adenau entrance to the track.....

They are! Been lucky enough to be in the passenger seats on some fast laps!

There's hope for me yet then... however, regardless of what car I use, I'm sure my first visit will be a struggle to go sub-10.

Tyres- Falken FK451
8:43 BTG

AlexF had it on film too at the time but not sure where it is anymore, we were chasing each other round (he was in some JDM Impretza) like scalded arseholes - Quite silly looking back but well worth it

Last trip over was the 540i Sport (after fitting an LSD and changing the diff ratio to 3.26:1) and on Pilot Sport rubber I managed a respectable 9:25 BTG which i didn't think was bad for such a heavy car

I was uncomfortable at that pace and was relieved to get to the end!!

Thats a quality video, impressive to get the 306 round at that speed and have the balls to push it.

Know what you mean about pace, i never push it that bit further, if i was fully insured and knew it was cheap for a crash and in something i could survive a crash in i would push hard but too much can go wrong on a track like that and cost soo much. Got the MK Indy this year and will only be enjoying the track and not smashing out the laps and break neck speed.

nige is under 400bhp and si is erm,,,, More ???? pmsl

oh and PMSL at the whining fuel pump,,,,, another quality thing about ring trips is the clubbing together getting cars repaired,,,,,,,,, remember " how to check if the pump is giving correct fuel pressure" issue that we resolved pmsl
