Cossie oil pressure

Cossie oil pressure
I just tried to fire up my cossie with the king lead off, as I wanted to get the oil pressure back up before I start it.
I have fitted as well an oil pressure gauge to monitor it as well.
I have run the battery flat with the spark plugs out 3 times and the light or the guage hasn't moved.
The engine has been sat in my garage for 3 years and was running fine before I removed it from my old saff.
I dont want to start it without any oil pressure
Any ideas anyone?

tried
Hi I have tried pouring some oil down the dizzy and fitted it back up.
Left it for a while and turned it over until battery went flat, and still no oil pressure.
I dont want to fire it up until i have some pressure or until the oil light has gone off
Any ideas or if anyone else has had this problem?

you are doing the engine no good you might turnn it over forever and it will never pick any oil up ! and yes i do know what im talking about i have to build cat engines for a living. just start it up and as soon as its running it will pick up the oil if its ok.
the starter isnt turning the engine over fast enough for the pump to pick up the oil and get it up to your pressure gauge, its got to get right through the crank before getting to your gauge.
i did exactly what your doing when i built my first cat d8 engine, when i started it all was fine.

did the same with my cossie engine, take the dizzy out, put a socket and extension down on the pump drive and get a drill on it, should bring it up pretty quick that way. starter would really struggle to turn it over fast enough to pull the oil up.

Don't listen to the cart engine man, a cossie engine is a different animal.
You could completely fill the sump by pouring oil down the dizzy hole if you want, it won't do shit tbh, as the problem is about 10" away from the dizzy!!
Take off the oil filter, now pour oil down the hole at the bottom edge of the oil "housing" on the engine, this will fill the pump, and also wets the rotor in the pump, it is the seal between this rotor and it's housing that sucks the oil up the pipe from the sump.
Pour oil in here till it's full, put filter back on and spin with plugs out, you'll have pressure within about 5-6 seconds.
This also works on certain shit evo engines that suffer the same problem by the way!!
This is what I did on my new build, it took around 3-4 seconds, with it's std pressure pinto pump.

do you understand that the oil gets to the oil gauge after its been through the bottom end, it will have pressure before the gauge says it does.
what do you do tab after its been stood pop in the garage and take the diizy out and get busy with ur ratchet lol

mine shows pressure within a few seconds of cranking when left stood, are you sure you dont have a faulty guage? does the oil light exstinguish when cranking, if so then its safe to fire up

lol tabetha 1500 lbft isnt exactly cart power is it ffs, massive engines they pick up oil straight away as did my small block chevy when i built it.

That is the question I answered, diesel engines are a lot tougher than petrol engines, but you seem to think they're all the same for some reason!!
I have never taken out a dizzy to get oil pressure on a cossie, but then I've never needed to, a look at the oil galleries, supply and feed soon tells you what the problem is.
But then I always wet the pump before installing, by filling with a thick oil.
What relationship do you think exists between power and oil supply, I can't figure you out.
Looking at page 27 of the HAYNES manual book no 903 of the OIL SUPPLY on a pinto engine, and of course hows you to be talking out of your rs again, the oil goes from the filter into the oil gallery(this is the one that after cleaning out I tap a bolt top seal in the rear and cap off at the front), then from there due to the law of physics goes to the nearest item, guess what it is, YES THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, or in the case of a gauge to the gauge, most are electrical, and feed from the same area as the oil light warning switch, AFTER that the next nearest thing is the crank, where upon it is squeezed out and falls into the sump NO OIL GOES FROM THE CRANK TO ANYWHERE OTHER THAN FALLING INTO THE SUMP.

I agree but even if you just start it, it can take upto a minute to get oil pressure, usually around 30s though!
If you have the option to buzz the pump drive then do that

Take the turbo oil feed pipe off, if you get oil out of there whilst cranking its a good sign you have pressure. Just remember to put the oil feed into a bottle or something lol.
I used the electric drill on the oil pump drive on mine and it worked very well.
