Few reasons most likely, major one's are probably cost of use at Brunters these days (hire, insurance, safety etc.) and the fact project cars are always on the blink, mid build or people just can't afford them. Dire times mate

A bit like TOTB, more talk than torque

Seriously though, it would be nice to see the top machines showing what they can do.

I spoke to Neil@FastFord about this last year I think there is a major issue with insurance (loads of rattly old fords doing top speed runs)

A mixture of insurance, costs and above all health and safety has put an end to the type of thrashes we know and love...

However, we've got something just as exciting in the pipeline which can accomodate a lot more cars!

Concours competition? Then again its the only thing we're allowed to do that isn't plagued with rules and regulations of health and safety

Is it a " bring your car along and tell us your BHP and what speed it will do " meeting ?

If so there will be thousands of entries , and thousands of total bollocks tales told

The mags cant really do it anymore but nothing to stop anyone organising it & getting the mag to cover it.
Certainly come July/Aug & my ops are out of the way myself/Ade will be hireing Brunters for a Topspeed Thrash.
If you lads on here want a Thrash get on & have one its just a telephone call away.
You could wait for the next Vmax thats the cheapest way, I personally would love to see the Cossie boys represented at this event. Im sure i could persuade the organiser to allow a mag to cover any such event.

Why not a standing 1/4mile for the grippers.
A timed track course for the corner merchants.
Standing 1mile for the Speedsters - The distance will take away the danger.

Whys that the track boys will tell you its kids play this Topspeed lark .
Only danger is braking too late & standing mile alows .7 mile to stop.
Are cars limited to 70mph on a track day surely more chance of a cock up hacking around corners with gusto.

Hope not Fords disappear up their own ass's when those words are mentioned .

Should be a great event with the fast boys having to run with their brakes on .

Should the mag be renamed 'Not too Fast Ford' .

Track days have a fairly rigorous H&S policy - driver briefings, helmets, marshalls, flag systems, on site medics etc etc, plus the track day compaines are insured and carry out risk assessments etc. Brunters has non of that and is effectively 'lawless'. While it's a great laugh, it is also incredibly dangerous.

A certain other magazine had a 'thrash' which involved a very high speed crash. That crash could very easily have led to the closure of the magazine, and the imprisonment of several people.

It's also worth remembering that insurance companies aren't staffed by car enthusiasts. They're staffed by people who shit a brick when you mention that there may be the odd 20 year old Ford driven by an untrained member of the public at over 160mph.

As you and I have discussed previously we'll more than happily come along and report on a Brunters style performance thrash, but we won't be the one staging it.

you need a shady shaddow corporation based in uganda to organise these things so fast ford just turns up and can absolve itself of any legal responsibility

or is it getting to the point now that if you turn up somewhere your mere presence as a magazine representing the industry implies a level of coorporate responsibility these days??? ie you turned up to a cruise and some tit crashed a car, could you be considered partially liable on the grounds that the cunt was showing off hoping to get a photo in a mag???

Warren, Dan and Rod have just said rod will organise a thrash and the magazine will merely report it.
Maybe it will be called the pensioner thrash

Plus anyway if you think about it the mag doesnt even need to officially attend, one of the people at the event could easily take some pictures for their own use 9like DanW if he goes along to watch for example), then choose to write it up after the event has happened and then the mag chose to use that existing article sold to them, but if anything goes wrong, the person would not write anything up and the mag isnt involved at all

it is getting rediculous though.

It wont be long before all the main shows will require group stands to submit proof of public liability insurance etc Already organised groups having local meets risk falling foul of public liability if something went wrong.

why cant you just force everyone entering/watching such thrashes at brunters to sign a liability waiver???

Warren, some of the events already require a risk assement form, I had to fill one out for the club I help run that is going to the performance vauxhall show.

I just put "no risks identified" as my risk assement so hopefully that will do

Because if you allow people to come on to your land and take part in any activity, then you have a duty of care to make sure they are safe from harm. A liability waver is a pointless piece of paper.

If there is an event and somebody dies, or gets injured, there could well be an investigation. If the paper trail leads back to the magazine then we're fucked! Hence, why it's perfectly fine for someone else to organise it and then invite us, but it's not ok for us to arrange it.

Not at Brunters anyway... but our new event isn't at Brunters
