XS Power Turbo's - any good?
A mate has just text me an ebay item number which is for an auction of a XS Power Turbo cheap - are these turbos any good?
I was trying to explain to my mate that its a lottery buying turbos on ebay but one of his mates has just bought it.
Its got me thinking now too.

to4e at 20 psi will be fine

i wanna aim for 32-33psi peak and 28-30psi held - will it cope?
My friends friend is hoping for 29psi.
So are these any good or are they likely to fall apart at the first sign of decent boost?

keep it below 1.5 bar or 23 psi and it should be fine, all the ones ive dealt with have been but at 30 psi they dont last long.
i did 5k miles on one on a yb at 22 psi and when i sold it was still excellent condition.

So what sort of power can you expect with o e fuming 23psi?
Engine is 200 block, slightly lower comp, slightly porter head, etc was the engine from Mr Worth on here & was in Spadges old black 3dr and was running 440bhp on a t38 apparently.

pretty much identical to a t34 on .63 exhaust housing so around 330 bhp at 23 psi, stage 3 basically. it will do 2 bar but youd be silly to do it, they are cheap because the components arent as good so cannot be used like a garrett, still good though on a road car.

My T34.63 was making just over 400bhp/torque at 2.2bar and it was great but the turbo only lasted 12-18 months.
I'm gonna get bored at 330 as it's for the track car. But at the price they are it's less than half the price of a rebuild on a t34
The website states 25-35 psi surely that can't be right then can it?

ignore what site says mate ive dealt with alot of these turbos into triple figures. if 330 hp isnt enough then dont buy one.

Excellent advice mate. I will have a think then as the engine may end up in the saff im buying which will be used as a road car so 330 will be plenty for that.
Cheers for the info. Will pointy mate at this thread.

ac tually just had a thought - i went through about 4 T34 turbos at 400bhp every 12-18 months costing anywhere from Ł250-Ł500 for a rebuild each time - whereas with these I can ring its neck at 2bar and then throw it away for a new one - will work out cheaper than rebuilding

i used a t04e xs power jobby on the 3dr at 28psi.
granted i only done 200 miles with the car but it went like a coooont lol
also there is a bit of play in and out, but if you buy one get a decent set of bearings fitted and you would have a good cheap turbo!
ps ran, mine is for sale for Ł100 to try it if you want. i also still have the external wastegate.

I wanted to keep it internally gated due to noise regs, but you could always feed the pipe back into the zorst i suppose

Still got a couple of questions i need answering...
who can uprate the bearings in these?
how much is it?
anyone done it and how long has it lasted and at what boost?
cheers

Ran, replacing the bearings is essentially a rebuild, and will require re-balancing, ie a few hundred quid, so you are then going to be paying reastlically twice the price of the turbo to try and improve it slightly.
Either by them and treat them as disposable, or use a proper T34 IMHO

Chip, I was rebuilding T34's every 12-18 months and dint want to be going through that again
Disposable would be better it when it fails I do t want it to take the engine with it lol
I hear you have ordered a few turbos from the states so may needtobemd your ear at the Middlesex meet

I dont ever get turbos from the states, all the ones I have sourced for people you might know have been uk supplied.
And I dont EVER get anything other than genuine garrett. So wouldnt be able to help you with this sort of turbo.
You seem to be missing the point that if you were rebuilding a well made genuine garrett every 12-18 months at 2.2 bar, you would probably be destroying one of these cheap crap ones every few weeks at the same boost.

Think i will give it a miss then and just save for a proper turbo - i ideally want a T4 but cant seem to find them when i have the money for it. Then i spend money on something else and a flippin T4 turns up
Want one of those Haart inlets too

because a GT30 is mega money but its certainly on the wish list.
the T34 was on my last engine (Harvey Gibbs 400/400) in the moonstone 3dr - the new engine is a similar spec though so i will defo need a bigger turbo

be honest though mate all those t34 repair bills and initial cost would of paid for a gt30 that could of been run at less boost for same power and still be going today

Pmsl @ using the car
It got fuckin abused at every opportunity. Gutted now we have loads if cameras near me as it used to be fun smoking the roundabout
I'm sure the engine is still going strong from when Harvey built it, it's just everything else that falls apart around it.
True, the amount I have spent on turbo rebuilds is ridiculous. But I have no disposable income for the next month as deciding what daily runner to get first - my old saff ghia which is a Cossie rep now or an e39 530d?

How about a Holset ?

They are meant to be tough at high boosts.
