Default Momentum 99 or V-Power 99?

I use both of these fuels on my Mondeo and can tell little difference between the two, Momentum always feels a little bit 'peppier' against the Shell though.

At the moment Momentum is a good 4-5p a litre cheaper than Shell, Thorney Motorsport test aside, is it really as good as i've heard?

Be curious to know how many people use it and in what car. I'd also like to know if anyone has an idea of the MON rating!

I honestly dont believe you can tell the difference from driving them both, I sure as fuck wouldnt be able to.

what music were you listening to while deciding which was "peppier"?

And especially not if its just some standard mondeo daily driver on a mega conservative map designed to be able to cope with stale fuel etc

I drive 20k a year in it, get through a lot of fuel, monitor what the temperature is, the atmospheric pressure and humidity to make sure i'm not imagining things, in my opinion it 'feels' slightly sharper on light throttle openings in my remapped normally aspirated V6, other cars and engines may be different, i just wanted opinions on what people used and why, i could just say the V-Power is better because its made by Shell and is more expensive and therefore as a placebo effect, *must* be better but i didnt.

In a n/a motor you notice the difference?

Get some 95 in there and save yourself some money.

This discussion has been covered over on Scoobynet and the general consensuses is that Tesco's is better and to be Honest i think it is as well
Also worth noting that Shell is 98 and Tesco's is 99 so Tesco's is therefore better value
I only run my car on those too

Regards
Ian

I get slightly better mpg from normal Shell unleaded than Tesco unleaded from my Mondeo.

Well you have a more sensitive arse dyno than me if you can tell the difference, I drive about 40-60k miles a year, I remap probably 30 cars a year on average, and I cant even tell the difference between the difference 99 octane fuels when ive got det cans on (can spot old fuel though!)

I'd love to try a blind trial with you, cause I really dont believe you for a minute that you can really tell the difference!

Quite possibly yes, the Mondeo is my 'toy' only used on weekends so it does get used a fair bit, i do the other 40k in the van!

I appreciate your response, if you map cars for a living and cannot find a difference with their detonation resistance and overall power is the same regardless, thats great, i can still tell the difference on the road though although i wouldnt say its a power gain, far from it, just how it feels on the pedal.

Pointless post then as both are more than adequate for your map, just buy whichever is cheaper, they will give you the same performance

well according to that shell to tesco about 1% so 200 hp st200 might gain 2 hp, i wouldnt be able to feel an extra 2 hp for certain.

2bhp and cheaper fuel surely gives it some kind of advantage though to some people

its all the same unless you drian the fuel out and remap the car every time you refill, run alittle more ignishion or boost ect, all comes from the same fuel depot just additives added when it comes out the tankers at the station

I've not said once that using Momentum 99 has gained me power or vice versa, yes my car is remapped and running 245bhp now, if it made 0.1 bhp more on one or the other, i dont care, i just wanted to know if one is better or not, as they both have the same octane rating, but are quite different fuels, Momentum i believe only comes from one place and contains 5% bio-ethanol, V Power 99 doesn't.

Does anyone know the MON rating of V-Power?

I do a fair bit of work on fuel loading facilities, and as far as I'm aware, Shell are the only people that manufacture their own super unleaded. The other suppliers add a range of boosters etc to std unleaded when it's loaded onto the tankers.

I've used both fuels extensively in Porkers/FRS/Cossie and can't tell any difference at all.

You're right about the Ethanol too, goes into all petrol now, same as bio-diesel goes into all diesel fuels (5% currently, will be going up).

I had it dynoed today and made good power on fresh Momentum99, did 248bhp and 217 lb ft which is spot on for the spec. At 6p a litre cheaper than Vpower I'm sticking with it for now, saves a few quid and the clubcard points are more useful !
