1) has it got to be the 2.0 from the same year
2) will everything from my 1.8 engine go straight onto the 2.0
3) are the gearboxes the same so it will bolt up nice
4) is there anything else i neet to know or do.

The 2L is just a bigger version and thus the same family (Zetec-E) provided it's the same Focus I.E the MK2 2L Foci will have a Duratec engine which is totally different!

The MK1/2 Mondeo also can be found with both the above.

No the 1.8 has the IB5 gearbox, the 2L the MTX 75.

The engine itself should be a straight swap, you may need a remap or the ECU from the donor car as well.

Early versions of the engine had a aluminium cam cover and are referred to as "Silver top", these can be found in Fiesta MK3's, Escorts and Mondeos

The engine was then known as Zeta and then became Zetec in 1993, the engine was then revised and recieved a black plastic cam cover this is known as the "Black top"

Get a blacktop 2.0 and the ecu/pats transponder (plastic bit around the ignition barrel) and swap the motor over and the pats bits and the ecu and you should be away iirc.
You might need to keep the 1.8 flywheel for the IB5 box if you're not fitting the mtx75.
I *think* all the sensors are the same between the 1.8 and 2.0 so it should be pretty straightforward

I don't see how my post is on the Burtons website LOL?

You shoulden't have to swap the aerial either around the ignition barrel, as all it does is merely read the key unless these have something special, rather you would have to pair your key to the new ECU if swapping so try and get the key from the other ECU as well as this will enable you to do so, a crude method is to put the transponder in the key from the donor car into your key in which case your remote key still would not work so the former method is best.

I would think the ib5 should be ok, if you swapped the mtx75 in you'll need to get involved with getting different shafts, gearshift cables and all that other crap.
Dont forget Discs on the back if you want it to look like a 2.0 from the outside!!
