Default Gear Selection Issues - HELP!

after a bottom end rebuild i now have gear selection issues when my engine is running, yet i can select a gear when the engine is off with the clutch down and start the car and it'll drive ok but selecting gears is very difficult( ive got a 2wd cossie by the way)

now the only things i have changed while the bottom end was rebuilt was the fly wheel( i went from a lightened 2wd fly wheel to a refaced 4wd fly wheel and a brand new thrust bearing from msd) new clutch was re padded and my pressure plate was reconditioned

ive booked it into a garage to have it looked at as i dont have the space to take the box off but i have been asked if there is there any difference between the 2wd and 4wd fly wheels?

sounds like for some reason your clutch just isnt engaging far enough, my mate had this on his mki1 escort after clutch and flywheel customising and he ended up without enough travel to fully engage the clutch !

the clutch plate isent dragging is it as in not free to move on the input sharft and not moveing away from the flywheel when you press the clutch peddal? and the plate is deffo in the right way round is it (easy mistake to make!)

The plate will only go one way round, due to hitting the flywheel centre if wrong way, was the plate a nice sliding fit on the splines of the box, I assume you checked first, if not it should have had some rubber grease applied here, as sometimes the plates jam to the input shaft splines and don't move away minutely from the flywheel, had the same when I got my cossie, took box off and applied rubber grease to cure perfectly.
Is your gearbox oil level correct, as in not super low, as this will make the box easier to spin, whereas the small drag caused by the oil stops it turning so freely and helps with this problem.

yep which would cause the clutch to be permanently engaged as the wrong side is butted up against the flywheel not saying it is just a thought
