Always thought Ford committed to at least a 10 year spares chain, obviously not.
Sad that you can have a car built 7.5 years ago and the manufacturer has offloaded the spares stockpile, doesn't exactly help with keeping the car going.
I know that technically the bits are out there, and the economics of sitting on spares aren't great but compared to the backup some other manufacturers manage it isn't very impressive.
Then again some of the parts availability wasn't great anyway, the calculations didn't exactly include allowance for all the 'non-spares' sales especially when some bits got put in the US tuning catalogue.
(On a sidenote, I still don't know how some of the FRP parts got so thin on the ground, bumpers for example there were 1200 sets (orig. production + 20% sparing), eventually only 500 cars, can't believe there were that many accidents & replicas...)
