Default Soild alloy bushes in steering rack, any advantage/difference?

Ok first of all how do I remove the standard ones, just cut them out with a hacksaw?
Secondly, the standard ones seem pretty darn solid anyway, so I can't see alloy ones would make a great deal of difference tbh???
Thoughts????

I can't see them doing much either, apart from maybe under hard cornering, they won't squash like the rubber ones.
Not sure on removal on 4wd, but on my 2wd I just used a punch and whacked them all the way through, 2-3 hits., did one end at a time so the rack was "supported" by the remaining bush.
