Go to the D.V.L.A website put in the reg and model and it will tell you if it is taxed or sorned. That way you will know if it is dead or alive.

just type in vehicle licensing online on google will take you to a few choices, top one is the start page, I use it all the time.
Btw what's the reg number of the capri ?, I know a black 2.8i, b reg not used for around 10 years, just sat in the front garden on the dirt.

I got the form from the postoffice asking for the info on cars Ł2.50 i think it was, you need a good reason to ask for the owners details though, i told them that i wanted to trace my old car and they sent it back with my cheque with a note saying it wasnt a good enough reason. Sent another saying the car was on my property and i wanted to contact the owner to remove it, got the details and went and bought my old car back! tada

Could also have got prosecuted, so not advisable, cost is Ł5 for copies of V5's.
You can download from dvla site form V888, send it off with cheque for Ł5, and a good enough reason, if the reason is good enough the data controller at the dvla has a legal obligation to give you the info, as do the police if the reason is justified.

1-6-2001 was it's last liability(tax renewal date) date, unlikely to exist anymore.
Up to you if you can "think" of a reason dvla will accept, if you apply and it is rejected it costs nothing so worth a go imo, just don't get your hopes up.
It would be worth writing to "FEE PAYING ENQUIRIES" at DVLA, and asking if it is still registered, I've scrapped cars nearly 20 years ago that are still on the system as "unlicensed", despite some even been faxed by recyclers, subsequent letters from myself, even photographic evidence in one case .
I still get tax demands for a car I scrapped 6 years ago, dvla were faxed by recycler, letter sent from myself signed for with tear off bit etc, still get demands, they tell me I have to provide evidence!!
