just wondering peoples opinion on them ?? was looking at 1990 escort 1.8 xr3i convertible what bhp are they standard ? the one im looking at has stage 1 gas flowed head , vernier pulleys and twin 40s ...do they have any common faults i should look out for etc anyone got a spec run down ie e/w p/s etc

105 BHP as std according to ford, a lot never were though.
Competent enough cars if that's your thing.

if i'm correct they make 130 ps thats about 120 something bhp because they have the 2.0 zetec intake and management. like the gti's

Correct although the 130's never actually made 130 most being about 10bhp shy of the claimed figure

^^^^ read here 1.8 i presume zetec as they never used the 1.8 cvh in the escort so if im correct same engine as the gti and the rs1800 that ford state 130ps for but if im correct they never made them with that engine till 93

thats a 1.6 cvh mate and about 105bhp as standard unless it has efi then its around 108bhp

Its a 1.6 not a 1.8 unless its been bored tbh i like them there nice cars if tidy.the engines eat the cams all you have to do is buy a solid lifters and something like a piper cam id stay away from Kent cams tbh as they're not strong in this engine
