Default cam timing and boost ?

am i right in thinking retarded cam timing will make turbos more laggy ?
i just ask as the sup is laggy and both cams on the hks verniers seem to be 4 Degrees retarded from central.
its a huge turbo but i think its being made laggier than need be due to set up. has fully mappable boost controller so i will be playing with this aswell. it feels like all the power just goes bang 5000 - 7600 rpm !
it was mapped before last build but head was ported to same spec by cnc, im just wondering if it was mapped at say 0 d originally now the engine has been rebuilt they have retarded it 4 d on each cam to make sure its safe on the map still ?

well i have looked at the dyno run and it looks to not be making full pull til about 5k revs which is as it is now so i think it is safe ( gotta check fueling to be sure)
but i may get cam timing altered on the dyno and see what else is achievable.

Simply, retarded cam timing moves peak power higher up the rev range.

you cant read the timing by looking at the verniers really

i would of thought itd be very close the whole engine is hks, crank, rods, pistons, cams and pulleys.

im still pondering this if its worth tinkering with to optimise the cam timing, im just not sure if the gains would be worth the cost.

The only way to optimise that sort of thing is on the dyno. Get it back to TDI and I'm sure they will sort it.

yes steve ive spoke to sam there mapper and he is sure there will be gains everywhere, but its very time consuming and there dyno is pretty much as good as it gets hence Ł100 an hour + vat, im just not sure the gains will be worth the cost hence trying to find out roughly what gains can be made

ps with regard to the r888s ive got much better grip now fella 100x better, better than i expected tbh

You could try doing it yourself. But it would be equally time consuming, use loads of fuel, and difficult to get repeatability.

No matter who does it. It's a case of testing, stopping, altering, testing etc etc etc. It will certainly be faster to do on a dyno and under controlled conditions.

It would be easy to go through a few hundred quid and many hours on the road DIY'ng and you may never be happy or sure with the results.

At least on the dyno the time/money would be more efficiently used. Overall, could be a good investment
