They'd work but I wouldnt expect huge gains as the 1.6 has such a rubbish head. Not sure on figures as I'm not sure anyone has done it.

If they're cheap, buy them, then buy a 1.8 lump too!

Don't waste your time and money messing about with the 1.6 they are to all intents and purposes untunable, you could throw shed loads of hard earned at it and end up with 10bhp. Concentrate on the 2ltr option or at a pinch the 1.8, both these easily and relatively cheaply should get to the 155-165 mark on 45's, I say 45's because they are the better option on a 2ltr, 40's will be a bit restrictive.

Get the 1.8 on 40's. Use it then when you have cash for 2.0 and better carbs you can use all the stuff off the 1.8 on the 2.0 then. As your gonna need flywheel, sump etc..

If you're planning an engine change later, I'd just hold out and fit the carbs when you do the engine change. No point going to all the trouble and expense of fitting them to the 1.6, only to have to do it all over again when you change the engine.

Just put up with the 1.6 for the summer and then crack on over winter!

how cheap is cheap? they webber carbs or delleortos? are they a matched pair? spanish or italian? to be honest 40's aren't big money anyway second hand.

personally i'd go bike carbs, no more work involved than fitting 40's really and they will be far better if you pick the right ones.

1.6 silvertop is a pants motor for tuning. Don't waste your time with it, hold fire and fit it to your new motor when you fit that

as said above , twin 40s arent worth alot off money second hand,
also you will prob have to change chokes, jets etc
if there that cheap they re prob cheap for a reason
not worth the hassle on a 1600 zetec,
might as well piss against the wind imo
