does anyone know much about these? ive been offerd one as a px against my impreza wr1 and dont know anything about them really, guessing there fairly similar to a evo 5/6? common problems? cheers

Wasn't it the evo4 that had crank walkies ?, I know from a mate they can be seriously crippling on fuel, shame as evo4 is my fave!!.

biggest problem is the crank not the most reliable, not the best made evo

save up a bit more mate and get a 5 or 6

Did the 4 and 6 not have the same engine. My mate had a 6 and blew his engine and the garage said an evo 4 engine was the same.

no the 4 and 6 engine are differant crank, rods etc....

No it was a 6 engine he got in the end.Was a reputable garage he put it into as well that delt with specificly jap cars.Must have been talking complete shit to me no wonder it took them a year almost to get his car back on the road.

i raced a mates evo 3 .. in my rs turbo.. hour later when i got home he blew the headgasket. replaced that then went racing a few weeks later and the spark plug failed. cured that and then decided for more power.. so changed the turbo,injectors,ecu etc and got it set up live mapped.. well on his way home the engine failed!!
so bought new engine and fitted and raced me again lol anyway he then bought a evo 4 and its NEVER LET HIM DOWN!!yet

A friend of mine bought one. He only had it a few months and the engine broke. No3 piston was all scored and the bore was scored too.

He's asking if he should take it in part-ex.. I don't think the guy is going to magic it into an evo 5 to part-ex that instead?

I like 4's. 2 mates have had them, both did really well. 1 is still going perfectly, the other didn't like rolling through a field after flipping an armco on the motorway..

Do it, I prefer them to Impreza's all day! If not, just sit it out for a cash sale?

its a buters market i paid 4k for my evo5 came with 7 engine ,massive radiator ,coilovers 8 pot brakes ,18's ecutek remap hks exhaust , big stereo ! cost another £500 for a wheel bearing and ayc pump so a bargin imo BUT be aware they like fuel ALOT
