well im assuming mine is the TPS as when i plug it back in, the engine stalls, when i unplug it it runs, and if i have the engine running with the plug out then go to plug it back in, the engine starts to stall, if i remove it the stalling stops and she runs ok again......can anyone tell me if they have had simular syptoms with the tps?

have you even changed the map sensor!? you may be totally off with the TPS that will just allow it to rev. mine had a std 2bar on and it was faulty and had the same issue, swapped it for a new one and ran PERFECT.

Deffo tps,had it on my xr2i years ago, took it too ford who did just that, disconnected it,then put a new one on,ran perfect afterwardsI tried all the usual, crank sensor etc and it was that,I think it went closed circuit, therefore telling the engine that it was at full throttle and the ecu wouldn`t allow it to start or vice versa.

Map is available as it is the ofab type and these were used on many cars , the tps is a different story , have been looking myself but with little joy , hence the reason I have gone and bought a full xr2i engine complete with all the sensors and bits to make sure I have a spare

ford do or did still have some a while back but they are not cheap by any means.

due to the expense, and the fact of how hard it can be to get one, i always keep a full stock of all sensors, last count i think i have about 12 TPS and i keep finding them lol

anyway, i was told many years ago, but never followed it up, that maplins sell a variable resistor that will replace the TPS, at the end of the day the TPS is only a variable resistor with a moulded case round it, so if you can match the values for a ford TPS to one maplins sell you should be sorted.

as i said i never followed this up by buying one and testing it, but i was given a link at the time to the resistor and i was going to get one to try, but it was so long ago now i couldnt say which it was

local motor factors will have a MAP Ł60, TPS just get a s/h one, very rare a tps would cause a issue tho TBH

I would also check there are no wire brakes near the end of the TPS plug. My 2i had an on off judder and replaced plugs, leads, coil pack and TPS and it was the wire. They did take the replacement parts back off!

as above yes that was going to be another thing i had 1 time, a break in a wire going to the coil pack and made the car run like shit and took ages to find as the plastic made the wire look comlete but there was a break...
