Had my ST3 for 3 years from new before selling it last year. Really good daily driver, just horrendous on fuel. You can get the same performance with better economy with the VAG 2tfsi as previously said.

My mps blinds it performance wise, and im getting 28mpg average and i drive quite hard can see 30-32 if i drive normally

My mate also has an st hes only getting 22 around town he got 27mpg on a run to the coast just not worth it for what you get imo

Do you get 28mpg in town traffic? As I only get 28mpg in my Mondeo stop start and I keep looking at these Mazdas...

My ST had 300bhp and a remapped MPS was faster. I loved my ST but 20mpg for 225bhp is terrible

I like them and i love the noise they make, and without getting into slating match or whos is the best, imo performance terms theres quite a big gap in favour of the mps

All personal opinion though really. I test drove an MPS before buying my ST and comparing the two, I thought it was about as interesting as a night in with John Major.

Looks way too bulbous from the front, interior was basic japanese dullness, yeah it went alright but the handling felt really wooden, not particularly lively and it just wasn't a particularly interesting or fun car to drive.

Don't get me wrong, as an overall impression it isn't a bad car, the driving experience just didn't interest me in the slightest.

The ST on the other hand, driving position is better, loads more feel through the steering wheel, just feels all together more involving. The 5 pot lump sounds awesome on full chat and the handling, although it is a heavy car, it feels much more alive and fun, lift off oversteer is easy if you provoke it!

You sure you took the 3 mps out?

Rich I've gota disagree and I'm a ford man.... The MPS doesn't 1 bit seem Japanese and certainly doesn't handle bad...pound for pound there a very under estimated car.

And bringing this back on topic ... I'd have a st as a daily cos petrol prices don't bother me.

I didn't say it handled bad, I just said it wasn't particularly interesting compared to an ST.

When Danneth says it IS a better car, I find that a totally inaccurate statement. Yes it may be tenths of seconds quicker in a straight line, but it's uglier inside and out, doesnt sound as good, doesn't handle as well blah blah blah.

And this isn't a statement, it's all down to my OPINION of both cars!

Sorry rich when i said better car i was thinking of things like, bose sound system, LSD as standard, better MPG etc there real advantages imo, i know you think its only a few tenths but 60-100mph the mps is a second quicker and 0-120mph then mps is 2 seconds quicker quite big margains for two hot hatches again IMO

Like i said before i dont want to turn it into a slating match there both good cars, looks, driving position steering etc is all down to personal preference but when it comes to value for money i will always stick with you cant find a better spec, quicker, newer hot hatch then the mps

So.

I never considered an MPS when I bought my ST3, but the noise, looks and my love of most this Ford was enought for me.

EDIT: Just looked on PistonHeads, not too keen on the MPS's interior.

If fuels not an issue then you'll love the ST. Be prepared to buy an RS clutch and flywheel if you start remapping etc. Perfect opportunity to drop and LSD in!
