i think its stupid the price of running costs for these cars, the parts should depreciate as much as the cars has... but they dont if anything the parts get increased every year! i remember looking up a new engine for one of these £45,000 with a £10,000 surcharge..

I'd like a new set of tyres for my 2011 M5 please.
Certainly sir, that will be 1200 quid.

and now I'd like some exactly the same for my 2005 M5 please
Certainly sir, that will be 400 quid.

Very capable car indeed just marred by the gearbox slow to change i have done a lot of work on these and the older e39 m5's. good ones are very realiable but steer clear of poorly maintained ones they will leave you broke and some, however if you are good with spanners they are not as bad as you might think to work on, personally i would go for the e39 m5 sleeper car of the decade imo.

tee rex......its a sequential box, of course slow speed driving is sluggish but on setting 11 and full chat its blistering, and that how one is meant to be driven

I suppose they do get alot of abuse tho. Shame they won't be there anymore.

Next time I'm there, I'll ask the German bint that wanted her photo taken with me if that is right .

As Chip says, for insurance purposes they short shift at 7k (revs to 8250), so I'd be surprised that the engines lasted only that long (as that is only 2740 miles) and when I spoke to her, I'm sure she said that it was the brakes, tyres and suspension bushes that had to be replaced around that figure, but not engine and transmission....

Sorry but compared to someone who is appearing to be a total retard, its actually hard NOT to look like a smart arse, just tieing my shoelaces would make me look like a rocket scientist next to your logic!

How is that any different to the tyres example?

Should a set of injectors for a 2005 M5 cost less than a 1/3rd of the price of a totally identical set for a 2011 set then?
How fucking angry would you be at the price you got charged on a 2011 car when you wanted to buy parts if you knew that they were selling exactly the same parts to other people for 1/3rd of the price just cause their car was older?

Not to mention if you went in with a nice condition white car and the bloke next to you had a scratched up brown one of the same year and all his parts were cheaper cause his car had depreciated more cause it was a crap colour and hadnt been looked after and had done lots of miles

Imagine trying to write the software that does the parts pricing

What a fucking ridiculous idea

Given the scenario of depreciating parts; I'm sure bits for a 1995 Ford Escort would be cheap enough to stomach anyway mate, although admittedly not as cheap as a 1988 Ford Sierra, they'd likely be comically cheap.

Proper LOL @ parts being subject to depreciation!!

...end of the day, if you buy a £65-70k car for full list price then you're prepared for the running costs (fuel, insurance, replacement parts) of such a car.

People can buy these cars for almost 1/4 the original selling price these days, but, they need to realise that it still made up of the same components that it was when it was brand new and so will have exactly the same (or higher given the way the world works..) running costs that it did when new.

Cheers,
Grant

Thats not using the engine to its full potential either I beleive as im sure rainbird said that all the ring taxi drivers are not allowed to rev more than 7K or something like that.
And limited to 8 mins no faster.

I was at bruntingthorpe in 05 the same day as tiff needell was giving an E60 m5 a fair hard time talked to him about the car his comments were brilliant engine, slightly dodgy looks, pretty damn good handling for the size of the car, and a gearbox built for the autobahn not a race track, with 100 horsepower more than an e39 m5 he lapped a tenth of a second slower than an E39 i have owned and driven both on 25 odd track days imo he was pretty much spot on.
