Default E60 M5 Depreciation...

...is absolutely mental.

Ok, the car in the link below looks like it's painted in 'performance brown' with some shit wheels but it doesn't say it's Cat C/D which I'm sure they have to disclose if selling... so an HPI clear E60 M5 for this money is crazy IMO?!

I was seriously considering one and took 1 out for a test drive and managed to demolish £15 worth of fuel in 22 miles which put me off a tad. That and the fact me mate who works at bmw says gearboxes can fail and cost 10k to replace. Not exactly a cheap ar to run and maintain even if you could pick 1 up for 10k unfortunatly

A lot of car for the money. I've had the pleasure of driving a few of these (worked in bm main dealer) and they are awesome. For suck a big heavy car they can't half shift

it's a car to buy and own for 6 mnths and hope nothing goes wrong and sell on but de badge that one and 99% of porsche drivers wouldn't know what they had just been smoked from

they will still keep coming down imo Problem is its a 5 door saloon car with running costs of a super car, and who can justify to run a 5.0 v10 these days? The rich folk that can buy 70k cars not 5 year old 20k cars

Some of the bills for replacement bits on the E60 are truely eye watering, however, I think that's because people forget that this is a proper supercar... 200mph+ without the limiter, V10 engine, £60k price tag, complex transmission... it's a 4dr supercar, and as such, comes with the running costs associated with that.

Haha exactly and that would take the shine off buying it slightly... plus my mates wouldn't stop taking the piss, ever.

Cheap cars with big repair bills now these, going to be some really shoddy examples kicking about in a few years (bit like saphs were 10 year ago!)

Yea, I think they're going to be a BIG gamble to buy used!! However, maybe not to the same extent as saphs/older performance cars were once they were 10-12 years old. Reason I say this is because of how hi-tech the E60 M5 is, should really limit how pikey people are allowed to go with maintenance on them.... did Phil not find out that he has to get a far more expensive but correctly coded BMW battery for his rather than a perfectly good non-BMW battery that he'd bought for a lot less cash??

To me; it's a supercar because of the performance it offers, it's top speed (to me anything that pulls 200mph standard is a supercar), the noise it makes, the engine and the transmission.

Cheers,
Grant

Your right there chip there will be some right shitters about in a few years. The one i viewed had already had a bit of a hard life and it was starting to show so cheaper cars owned by people who cant afford to ru them is only going to show this up even more

Not a supercar going by the normally accepted version of what the term gets used for, it doesnt have the looks or single minded focus etc.
Definately supercar performance and even handling though!

taking a second look at it or automatically thinking your a tit when you get out of it

Agree with that mate, but then I like the slightly low-key angle too... I'd get a fair degree of pleasure driving something which, to someone who doesn't really 'know' their cars, looks like a E60 Diesel M-Sport but will leave them extremely red faced is fantastic.

Epic cars, awesome in everyway, I'd have one in my life over most supercars, wasnt saying I didnt like them, just that they dont fit the profile of a supercar thats all.

ye i know what your saying. When people think supercar they think 2 seater in your face exotica. Thats why i love the m5 so much cause its super car quick and fits in with everyday traffic and as RS Grant said most people would just think its a nice 5 series like a 330d m sport or something

Yeah, agreed.

Although TBH I see little point in a really fast road car, you cant use the things properly these days except on tracks cause of all the traffic/cops/crap roads etc

Love the V10 M5!!!

Never driven one though, wonder if the thrill is that of a supercar?

Fastest car I've driven is Ferrari F430 Spider, reckon the M5 will feel as 'special' performance wise (as the rest was CRAP)? If so it's a no brainer!!!

Cheaper to run than an RS6 though!

They are silly fast, all that weight and 120mph terminasl! A lot of people prefer the E39 for some reason.

By the way
Start price 65K
Current price 18K
Depreciation percentage : 72%
Time period 6 years

Thats NOT actually particuarly bad depreciation, thats about typical for most cars, we;re just spoilt by RS models cars which buck the trends.

The ring taxi's have to be changed quite alot as the cars don't tend to last being thrashed day in day out. A friend of mine who lives out there knows someone who works with the ring taxi's and he says they struggle to last 200 laps before the gearbox or engine let go.
I suppose they do get alot of abuse tho. Shame they won't be there anymore.

200 laps?
wow

I knew they were lifed but didnt realise it was anything like that short!

Thats not using the engine to its full potential either I beleive as im sure rainbird said that all the ring taxi drivers are not allowed to rev more than 7K or something like that.

The problem is that it has to have had a full main dealer service history right from day one all the way through with no missed services at all, and a lot of the cheaper ones for sale dont have that.

also BMW got hammered by some european commission for their warranties and now they arent anywhere near as good anymore as they were deemed anti competitive, i remember that JJ's M5 one doubled in price and suddenly only covered about half as many things, so its nowhere near as good as it used to be sadly.

Looks like a shade just off red so not too bad. But even still £17k + few grand on a respray if you really wanted still a bargain motor!

That's not very good, but I bet it's still worth it with the price of parts for a car like this. My friend was pricing up parts for one and it came to the price of an average family car!
