Hi everybody ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Im the proud (shared) owner of a 1991 XR2i 1600 CVH. Bought it for £700.00 with the intention of using it as a track car. The previous owner has done the following work.
Stripped most of the interior leaving just the dash, door cards, headlining etc...
he also fitted the following parts,
Kent cam.
Chipped ECU.
Induction kit.
15 alloys, running 195/45/R15 Yokohama A520's.
Front and rear OMP strut braces.
Quite old but usable (for now ) buckets.
Braided hoses on front brakes.
lowered suspention (not sure how much its been lowered or what make)
Quite a bit of rust and holes to weld up first, but once that is done and its MOT is passed we intend on taking on the track for its first outing, im thinking elevington airfield first!
Anyway I would like the following advice....
1. Brakes very poor, looking for cheap straightforward bolt on upgrade?
2. Tyre recommendation (can get yokohama S Drive's quite cheap are they any good?
3. Can anyone recommend oil and plugs for this engine for track use?
4. Ive heard that the ford Puma gear selector and linkage can be used as a short shift, can anybody conform this and which model is any?
5. Should I fit an oil cooler before goin on track?
6. should I change brake fluid before track?
Any advice, help would be great.
If anybody is interested I could add some pictures.
Thanks,
Jim

Cosworth 4x4 discs and calipers fit straight on with a small washer to space caliper out slightly.
Normal road tyres are rubbish on track so i would go for a set of trackday tyres myself,I use Yokohama A048R's myself and rate them highly![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
I would use standard ford plugs myself and a good quality 10/40 at the least and an oil cooler isnt essential but a good idea.
On my Fiesta i use a good quality Dot 4 fluid and combined with yellowstuff pads i dont suffer any brake fade.
As for the puma linkage,im pretty sure that only fits mk4 fiesta's.
Now get some pics up

If you can find a set of mk3 mondeo front calipers and use ST170 300mm discs that will give you even better brakes than the cossie ones. Only problem is that you need to grind/shave the caliper down to get them below most 15's unless they are motorsport ones.
A mk5 zetec-s rear beam is a good upgrade aswell, straight swap.

Yes all the mk3 calipers are the same, even the ST220 ones. ST170 disks fit straight on without spacers. My younger brother uses them on his mk5 zetec-s track car with DS2500 pads and they are great.
