Default std cossy dump valve question

Hi,

My dad has 2 cossies both with split standard dump valve (bosch) diaphrams.

He's no boy racer and doesn't want bling or whoooosh psssssst items.

Ideally he wants a longer lasting std dump valve.

So, my question is:

CAN YOU REPLACE THE DIAPHRAM OF A STANDARD DUMP VALVE WITH AN UPRATED KEVLAR ITEM?

Cheers, Stuart

standard dumpvalve is only about £12 iirc so you might as just replace them.

I think its purely age related tiff as both have only plug in stage 3 chips, 21psi so guessing 290+bhp.

£25 each from woodford and £28 from Fords with discount.

The reason he wants something a bit stronger is because on one of the cars the turbo has just failed (missing 2 turbine blades) and he's paranoid the dump valve has contributed towards it.

So thats really why i'm asking if its possible to rebuild the std dump valve for purely better reliabilty.

Cheers everyone

If its not needed then why do ford fit them?

Would not running a dump valve on a standard (270degree bearing) T3 wear the turbo out prematurely?

Lee, are you sure the dump valve would have no affect on reliability?

If so, then i'm sure he'll simply plug the holes up

Anyone else with an opinion to running or not running a dump valve please?

Ford fit a recirculating valve to stop the noise when the Cosworth was realesed to the public, As people didnt like the "Chatter" that was heard. (Be it not alot on 9psi but was still there)

A dump valve/ recirculating valve isnt really needed till you go T4 or higher on loads of boost.

I dont run one at all on mine and its fine. I also didnt run one when my T3 was boosting 27psi for 10,000mile, took that off and it was perfect

20psi for me held with no dumpvalve - break out the pigeons

altho when the chatter gets quieter and quicker, sounds just like someone twanging a ruler on a table

Thank you all its all crystal clear now

He'll buy 2 new std replacement dumpvalves as mother prefers a quiet car/s

Next question, who's the best/cheapest to do an exchange 4x4 T3 turbo and is 360 degree bearing really necessary on 21psi/300hp?
