Sounds like another thinly veiled excuse to fuck the motorist even harder.

The powers that be are quick enough to hike the price like this. Shame they're never as keen or quick to pass on any savings.

The country will grind to a halt , as with all governments , they live within their safe zone of london and don't get out in the real mans world .
It's the tax paying people including truckers that keep this country afloat and it's only so much they will take before it will be all out war .....
People power out weigh the nambies in "office" ....when will they learn .........?
It just needs on mass protests instead of the few .......

Sure will. Truckers are barely scraping together a profit with fuel at the current prices, there's no way anyone would still be hauling at £2 a litre.

It will always go up. Question is how fast it gets to £2. Probably a couple of years away yet unless the rise in oil accelerates into a mania. But £1.50 is definitely going to be the new benchmark soon. NY oil closed above $104 on Friday... the market tends to move forward after breaking a psychological barrier like that, and it's well out of the range it was stuck in over the last few months... so plain sailing for a while at least.

Our currency is rising against the dollar, but not enough to offset these gains in oil. The way people are thinking just now is that currencies in general are weak with central banks using 'stimulus', whereas oil is a very real finite commodity that looks to be under increasing demand with the growth in the east.

It's a no-brainer, just wish I'd bought crude ETFs in the high 60s when I was considering it.

Can see a lot of businesses going under, or passing their costs on to us which would further push up inflation.

I'll get the bike out as i only work 3 miles away - using one of those MPG apps my Golf derv is only doing 37mpg short town runs so to go up any more isn't worth running a car and public transport is a better option as you can get a week pass for under a tenner

If/when it gets that high, I can see people starting to 'jack tankers on a regular basis. Fucking ridiculous IMO.

I got rid of my 35mpg 406 running on vegtable oil at around 70ppl for a Ford Focus that does 27mpg round down and can only run on petrol. If It goes about 1.50/1.60 then I'm going to have to go buy another Peugeot.

of course they will still be hauling sure some will go bust but ultimately haulage is still a supply and demand business just like any other and at the moment there are enough haulers able to undercut each other that the big retailers etc supplying contracts can hold haulers to ransom with rock bottom prices. As the number of haulers drops that power balance will shift and retailers will have to pay more to shift goods round the country. its as simple as that and obviously the prices of goods will go up to compensate.

shops and business's will NOT struggle to get stock due to lack of deliveries.

you forget, our government dont control oil prices, only oil duty.

OPEC couldnt give a flying fuck if the whole of the EU threw a hissy fit over oil prices let alone an insignificant bankrupt country like the UK

No, they are trying to blame that. But they know all too well they could easily reduce taxation so the price gets nowhere near that.

I'm sure the government would be happy at £2/litre, as the amount of revenue they would get would be massive.

Pity it would grind the entire country to a standstill.

Maybe price for bigger power cars might go down if no one can afford to run them no one will want to buy a petrol guzzler

Diesel round here is more than super unleaded!

Diesel was 140.9 / ltr
Unleaded was 130.9 / ltr

That was at one garage.

I drive a diesel and the mpg advantage is getting close to almost being eroded by the cost difference.

all boils down to the mileage you do; currently i'm doing 550 miles a week, a diesel is much better. thankfully i dont pay the fuel bill

the worst thing is we are being told the economy is in recovery,is that why the price of everything seems to be going up these days....someone needs to tell our employers if things are that good to start raising our salaries

they already have!!

ive been trying to sell my 306 GTI-6 atm, and im struggling to get the mear £800 im asking for it. (and its in VERY good condition) yet older, higher milage, and battered in terms of condition, 306 dervs are demanding and selling at a much higher price. i actually cant afford to run the car any more so i can see it going for alot less soon as i need a diesel myself with the amount of miles i do per week for work alone.

so just proves even at £1.30 a ltr people are already avioding higher powered cars

My mates girlfriend recently sold her 1 litre saxo because they got offered a vw bora tdi cheep.

Now she is thinking of selling the bora because the saxo did more mpg and unleaded is cheaper then diesel.

If I needed a cheep runaround it would be a small engine petrol.

S4/RS4/RS6 are not selling in the Audi world, some big bargains to be had!
Mine averages 15-17mpg, single figures if you boot it... if I didnt work 3 miles from home I would be forced to sell it. V Power is 137.9 up the road, and Tescos 99 is about 3-4p cheaper

Fuuny how we get the shit end of the stick isnt it?? You can bet your arse it isnt going to rise by 50% in America! Fuck knows how but weve got ourselves in a situation where we always sit back and take anything from anyone. Weve got imigrants laughing their cocks off at us as we throw money at them then theres us getting taxed to fucking death on anything and everything, and the more we work and try better ourselves the bigger that cut becomes. Feels like Coco and Krusty are running the country, bunch of clowns
