They will still check a shell if you crashed or broken it.... I asked when I'd broken my Saff and then thought about the plate

they wont if ya broken it as they only inspect full cars !!!!

i asked em and it needs to be a total car, it dont have to runn but needs a engine, transmision, axels ect

oh and the random check is actually if the cars not been taxed for a long period of time thats when they check em , thats the random check , ya not ment to know though, but they told me after i went fooking mental about my constant random inspections

thats bollock the cars they check are the ones that aint had tax for a period of time as there more likly to be rung or bought froma scrappy for a plate ect , thats what i got told at the dvla local office !!!!!!

they check the floor number to see if they are correct and the vin plate too , they aint fooking silly either !!!, did ya know that a floor number aint stamped but is actually pressed as the letters and stamped in and raised letters !!!!, cant do that effect with a punch

B19 : I've got a plate... just a plate. and a V5, car's long been broken. If I tax it, do you reckon it might be easier to blag?

Swapped mine last month from one of my cars that had no MOT (ran out in December). They never even batted an eye lid. If its had documents in the last 6 months they don't bother... unless your called Lewis from Brizzle

All plate transfers take a min of 72 hours (3 days) Even if you take all the docs to the local DVLC, they won't process it straight away. 4 days is the norm at less quiet times

ive swapped number plates from cars to retention and direct to other cars about half a dozen times now and the only time they wanted to inspect any of them was when i took my cos plate off my old escort that had been written off!

So i guess its not a compulsary thing!

Well, they put my number plate onto retention after they inspected it.

And the Tax had just expired and the Mot had aswell if i remember correctly, had a feeling thats why they wanted to inspect it... just to confirm that all the details, chassis numbers etc matched up....

.... but i could be wrong

The car I took my plate off had no current MOT or insurance, but had been in place within the previous 6 months. They never asked for insurance for either the donor or receiver vehicle. The car they were going on to was taxed, mot's and insured. How long has it been on a SORN Fozy ??

It IS a random check, 1 in 10 transfers / retentions are checked.

Any the not being taxed recently is rubbish, just ask Keith, his car was taxed when they demanded the inspection!

I do on average 10 / 15 Cherished Transfers & Retentions a month and not one vehicle has been pulled in for inspection in the last 3 years of me doing it! (but this could be beacuse my local DVLA office in Northampton are scared of me since I shouted at them on the phone for being incompetant)

i bet keiths car had a period of time that the car had no tax on though , im telling ya its not bollox as thats what there randon criteria is !!!

i should fucking know as i have had "random" inspections requested on my palte 3 times

oh and all of em have either had no tax or was taxed after a 4 year gap of no tax, ask keith again and i betting his car was restored and the car wasnt taxed when it was being done, oh and look at the out come of it too, thats why thats there criteria

i dont post bollocks, i knopw the answer to this one and dvla wont tell ya the criteria as they tell people its random !!!!!

its not !!!!

Don't talk to me about them.. After chasing round various places to find it (their old offices were listed in the directory), then to find their rediculous parking arrangement (about 10 spaces for a waiting room bigger than the local A&E) and then queuing up to find out they didn't take cards for the fee and I had to find a cash machine and queue up again (In total about 3 hours in there) Just for them to put a flag against my plate and demand an inspection (it was still MOT'd and the tax had only just ran out)

But the car was in bits across the country by then

One of the most useless days of my life was that!
