Default Rollcage tubing spec.

I need to extent the front hoops to sit behind the dash on my rollcage and at the same time might as well order enough to do a rear turret strut brace, fixed door bars, harness bars and link the B pillar posts at the floor.

I know FIA/MSA spec needs it to be CDS steel but can you use regular seamed tube? Or will it shit itself in the event of an accident?

They will all be straight sections, so no risk of splitting when they are bent.

I thought you shouldnt use seamed tube Muz as its weaker? Swear thats what i heard from the "exhaust tube cage" thread in the astra van.

Seamed is weaker yes, so best avoided as it means you have to make the cage much heavier to have the same effectiveness.

Yeah I'd want to keep it all the same Diameter which on the Saftey Devices 6 point is 2" IIRC? Do it properly with CDS I think then. £££

I think he is just mentioned the MSA etc as good guidelines rather than cause he wants a cert mate, thats how I read it anyway.

Yeah I was just refering to good practice as I won't be competing in anything that needs regs. No point having a cage which looks great then you crash the car and it turns into a 'punji pit' when the tubes split
I just want to add a few bits to beef it up as it's only a 6 point, but taking some measurements and looking at the angle of the 'A' pillar bar, it would only need a straight extention then reuse the existing bend and to the floor bar behind the dash.

Beef it up with the blue sections, extend with the green section.

Adding those blue lines in blue could only make it stronger IMHO, though consideration should be given when welding not to overheat the nodes - but thats about it.

However, CDS isn't really that much, and it is far stronger...

I was only asking about ERW tube as we have about 4 metres of it spare in 2" dia up the yard. Will get some measurements and phone some local metalshops about CDS

Yeah, they are £120 for a pair of doorbars from Saftey Devices! I could buy all the metal I need to link the entire car for less than that and a days work to fit it all. Cage would owe me about £300-350 then.

Notchings not a problem.
