Best Ever Motorsport
We were having an arguement at work last week about formula one being a bit boring and shit. I thought that group b rallying was much more exciting with better cars, more drama, controversy and it only ran for a while, which i think makes it a bit more special. Anyone else got any other ideas as to the best motorsport ever.

I used to love to watch rallying and British Touring Car Championships.
Not watched them for a while now as the coverage went to shit.
Still love the F1 though.

Back then if there was a manufacturer that sold a saloon car in the uk it was in the BTCC. It was ace watching all the accords, primeras, vectras, mondeos and the like tearing it round the tracks

I remember going to see it at Thruxton each time when I was with the Cadets lol.
Good old FOrd Mondeo's. I remember when Mansel had that big off and was airlifted (I think he was).
Pisses me off now the rallying in on ESPN or some other sport channel I don't get included in my sky HD package. Used to love Sundays watching the highlights on channel 4.

british historic rally is also great watch, loads of mk1 and 2escorts aswell as odd car like volvo amazon and porsche's and minis,
loads of mistakes made and less clinical approach to it than wrc so more fun,... formula 1 is shit, great respect for level of manufacture in cars and skill of drivers but really still very very boring

was watching motors tv a while back and stumbled accross something called aaa saloons. it's basically two classes of 4wd saloons. the first being designed to keep costs down to help introduce new people to the sport, and the second with pretty much unlimited regulations. in the unlimited class there are some stupidly quick evos and imprezas.

Some of the old thundersaloon races as the cars are just different !
Grp B Rallying, ITC as already mentioned some immense cars in Ireland.

Saw a saloon car series on motors tv a while back - had things like 350Z, Astra, Leon and something else running against each other. That was some good racing. Slow. But good racing.

Rallycross for me, not just for the heroic racing but also you can get so close to the cars, wander arond the pits, chat to drivers, spannermen etc. I've been all over Europe to watch it but my favourite place is Lydden, a great spectator circuit and a really grass-roots feel to it.
Second to that would be British Touring car, @ Brands.
Some of the support races have been superb, 2CV racing was crazy, the good old Nova Challenge was always hard-fought and who cant love watching Mini-Miglia or Minicross?

You can't beat Sprint HillClimb you get to see loads of different cars all performing on the same stretch of tarmac.
You get ex BTCC cars, ex Grp B Rally Cars, ex F1 Cars and proper classic racing cars I love it!

Can you cash a cheque?
Well chaps, I fully realise that I'm going to get a jolly good pranging for this, but I'm quite partial to a spot of Dragster racing, one has even partaken on a couple of occasions, but that was far back in the past.
Still, I find a day out at venues such as , Santa Pod raceway & Shakespear County Raceway, most exhilarating, although the VIP facility's at both locations are sadly lacking.
However, I can think of little better than sipping on a glass of Dom Perignon whilst watching a Top Fuel dragster catapult itself (& hopefully driver) into the four second bracket.
Also, it goes to show that whilst Americans are fairly hopeless individuals in most respects, they can invent a simple yet exciting branch of motor sport with the added benefit that the last thing on their minds at such events is attempting to make tea, which can only be a good thing.

Touring cars with Andy Rousse and Paul Radische (spelling) racing for Ford or Group b rallycross with Metro 6r4 and RS200 would be the best ever for cars and excitement.
You cannot beat rallying for modern day motorsport especially when you are watching it live. Isle of Man and Irish rally's would have to be at the top of your list.

Late 80`s BTCC was the best, loved the WRC when colin and richard burns were in it now it`s crap no brits and rubbish coverage, atm i love the Aussie V8 supercars some really good close races and you can`t beat a Ford V Vauxhall (Holden) battle.

My late father used to do it about 30 years ago in the days of Roy Lane, ADO, Martyn Griffiths etc and of course Rob Turnbull was almost a newcomer lol. Going to take my lad to a couple of events this year hopefully.
