Vauxhall Boffins / Engine Management Light
Evening all..
I am now the 'proud' owner of a 2.6 V6 Vectra B - 51 plate (Facelift?)
And after a few hundred miles the engine management light came on.... no difference in performance or misfire or anything else.
Low and behold the pin out method doesn't work as pin 6 is missing on these cars - YAY!!!!
So I disconnected the battery and it went away and came on again after about 30 odd miles and again no difference in performance or owt...
I've tried the foot on accel and brake method - doesn't seem to work to get the code to flash out. Am I doing it wrong???
So.... as I intend to keep the car for a while and I'd rather spend the £50 to get a dealer to de code it on a code machine.
Can anyone identify the one I need to buy and where from? ( Ebay ?? Halfrauds?? )
As I am a little lost.....
Thanks
Jake

OK
I have actually managed to get the foot pedal thing to work and I got
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
On the Omega forum I found this
The ECU runs a cat check cycle once the engine is up to temperature and driving conditions are right. This consists of setting a constant rich or lean mixture for a few seconds and observing how long the rich / lean indication takes to propagate from the front Lambda sensors back to the post-cat sensors. If the cat is working there will be a good delay as the cat absorbs the excess oxygen or depletes its' stored oxygen depending on the mixture.
Any ideas.....
Most importantly..... is it likely to kill my engine???

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
sounds to me like the cat is poor. if the vehicle was running super rich all the time the eml would be flashing. doesnt sound like its gonna cause problems, just not very enviromentally friendly! haha.
by the way, i work at a vaux main dealer so let me know if u need anything.

To be honest I really couldn't give a fug about the cats working or not at the mo - I am just concerned that the car is running correctly - i.e. wont blow up!
The paragraph from the Omega club seems to give me some comfort...
Thanks for the offer of help Churtz/Mo for the info.

You can buy cheap or generic code readers on egay.
Or fraudulent copies of Vaux-Com or Op-Com.
I think Gendan does legit stuff at decent prices though ?

The 2.6 has 3 cat convertors and hates low RON fuel for some reason.
Put some Super unleaded in and take it for a blast.
www.vvoc.com is useful.

it isnt hard to google or search ebay for Vauxhall code readers ? or gendan
And I'm not linking to the Op-Com or Vaux-Com copies....because they are illegal copies
Here is the original legal version though
