Default passionMGZR lol

ive just gone and bought an MGZR 2.0TD

tbh, its just a mile muncher, i paid 1700 quid for it and don't really care.
saw it on auto trader, 7 miles away a friend knew of it, so went and had a look, it drove nice and apparently it does 50mpg so was happy

but knowing NOTHING about these mg's other than that the petrol's destroy headgasket's i was wondering if anyone knew anything on here. . . usually do

does any know if the petrol exhaust systems are the same, more thing rear section as the std rusty derv pipe looks awful.

the front brakes arent even vented!! and are terrible, are there any cheap brake upgrades that bolt on, for example putting cossy 280mm brakes on an XR4.

the clutch was heavy? . . . are they usually in these or is it fucked?

any info useful :L

truth be told i have always fancied one of these as they do look good and the sound system in it is really good!!!

thats a shame about the exhaust, il just have to have a route through the shed an find an old mongoose or somthing and get cutting and welding. :')

Not true, the 75 models had that. The engine diesel engine fitted to the ZR is a very reliable Rover unit.

Are you sure about that? I'm not 100% sure but from what I recall the diesel back box and bore is bigger.

The beemer diesel as fitted to the 75, is not known for reliability either.
Clutches are usually really snappy, but as said engines are quite good, although can have a water pump appetite, respond EXTREMELY well to chipping though.
All in all imo very underated cars, the MG ZR/ZS are very lame imo, esp the ZS, and has awful suspension/ride, trophy blue looks nice though.
My mate breaks/fixes/services these so any probs or parts just pm me, and I'll give you his number.

The ZS has the better suspension not the ZR.

Cracking little motors

Stick a set of injectors in from an older 220/420 (pre-facelift) diesel (the break pressure is a few bar lower so they open sooner and have a slightly different spray pattern too irrc) and wind the boost up 3-5psi then remove the CAT and it'll go like stink and still return 45mpg

As said above, the engine is pretty much bulletproof providing it's serviced well - Rover L series unit that found its way into early Freelanders and the like Change the oil regular, do the service jobs like waterpump and glowplugs/thermostat and it'll serve you VERY well.

Not unheard of for people to be getting a reliable 160-170bhp from these

Plenty of information (and some pretty useless bullshit too that you need to filter through) on the mg-rover.org forum

the rover has the same diesel engine as honda accord & some land rovers, the common things that go on these cars are maf sensors, oil pipes down by the filter, exhaust always go before the back box & heater sometimes dont work on all settings,to fix this look up top in glove box there is a coil thing(dont know what its called) just change that

Edit: I was wrong. I learned something today.
