Default Mondeo TDCi fuel problems...

Bought a 52 plate TDCi Mondeo estate recently as was dirt cheap (£150) but as with all cheap cars its turning out to be a bit of a shit !!!

When i bought it it had the glow plug light flashing and was smokey as hell and running rough, almost in limp home mode all the time.
Had a shot of a Launch diagnostic computer and had fault code stored for no2 injector, tried re-coding them all but the fault code would not clear.
When the engine was warm it would fire up relatively easy but smoke and misfire, when cold it was an absolute bitch to fire up and would be cranking at it for ages before it would eventually spring to life.

Anyway i bought a set of known good injectors yesterday (had been put to a specialist for testing by previous owner as he was told the problem with his car was injector related, turned out to be timing chain had jumped, was charged £110 quid for testing injectors and told they were performing fine) and fitted them and got them programmed but now the car refuses to fire up at all !!

Can crank it for ages and almost offers to fire now and then but refuses to catch properly and come to life ! Even tried towing it and nothing.

Tried the computer on it again after fitting the injectors and trying for a while to get it to fire and it had no logged fault codes (glow plug light went out and stayed out after programming the new injectors)

Am wondering now where the problem may lie, a fuel pressure problem maybe (due to very difficult cold starting) so could i now be looking at a fuel pump problem maybe ??

I changed the fuel filter same time i fitted the new set of injectors.

Seems like a possible fuel delivery problem, do these year models have a seperate pump in the tank to supply the fuel to the filter or does it solely rely on the high pressure timing chain driven pump ???

Any info appreciated folks.

the injectors need to be programmed by a registered delphi programmer.

this is one of two reasons id never buy a TDCi mondy, the injector issue's, and the DMF issue's, both expensive to put rite, and its not a case of if they will go, more a case of when.

I changed the fuel filter on my old TDCi and it took HOURS to get it to fire up as the fuel was a right pig to get through .......

Did you fill the fuel filter housing with diesel after fitting the filter? If you didn't it'll take an age (and fuck the fuel pump) if you keep trying to turn it over till it pulls fuel through.

The TDCi only has one pump, but with a low, and a high pressure side.

Delphi state that you shouldn't turn it over for more than five seconds at a time if it doesn't fire.

As already said above, these are a bastard to start when there is air in the system (due to fuel filter being replaced) I use a hand primer and link it to the fuel line after the filter to draw fuel through the filter and start it with the hand primer still in place. These tdci's have lots of faults, I have seen them throwing up fuel pressure faults etc when its a faulty cam sensor, if you have no luck I would take it to someone who deals with them all the time, they will prob sort it out in no time

Going to try a primer between the filter outlet and engine inlet just to make sure im getting fuel right through the filter and into the engine, just in case its something simple like that thats wrong !!

I've cut the pipes off my old filter to use for this so i know will be getting a proper tight seal on the pipes.

Thats what I have got on my primer, an outlet from an old filter. you will only need one as the fuel hose you use just slips on the new filter outlet
