Right it has 4x4 front brakes so i guess it has a 4x4 abs system so the 2wd abs ecu would only work if it had a 2wd front setup?
Will check fuses.
Anything else?

I am not sure lol...waiting to hear if the rear diff was changed but i assume the rear abs would be the same as the 4x4? The front is deffo 4x4 as is the pump and abs ecu.

Have you checked the brake fluid level?
My Saff at the moment is 4x4 to 2wd and i haven't changed anything brake wise and my Esc was also the same.

Conversion won`t be the problem, the difference between 4x4 and 2wd abs is basically software....
Look for more simple problems first, take out all of the sensors and clean them, just a small amount of iron filings on them can stop them working properly(They are magnetic)
also check the fluid level, if it drops below the lower level the abs will switch off....... and check the both electrical connections on the reservoir cap, if the small sqaure 2 pin one is not in properly the abs will not work either..
Loads of simple things can cause this type of system to stop working and it`s usually an easy fix

Yep I used all the 4x4 sensors on both cars the Esc cos are a different shape so had no choice. The suspension legs will make no difference to the abs working or not IMO.

and the wiring looms are different as are the ecus (green and red iirc, although i seem to recall a yellow version somewhere along the line) with different pin positions and therefore different interlocks

I think most of the physical differences are down to equipment progression and changes in technology Nick, the operation is the same but the software is different to take into account the constant 4 wheel drive setup......
I`ve not noticed a difference on the road though, i`ve had a few 4x4 saffs and an Escos converted to 2wd and they seem to behave ok on the brakes in all weathers...

Late 2wd pumps and 4x4 pumps are the same Phil, i`ve used a late model 2wd pump to repair a 4x4 system..... All of the wheel sensora are the same with the exception of Escos which have a different plug on them but are the same sensor, the Escos sensors are also the same as Mk3 Granada.
Various other parts are interchangeable but as Nick says, you have to watch out for differences in the later bits....

i think they are too, as the 2wd was on a totally separate loom, but the 4x4 was more integrated.
i just wanted to point out that there are differences though, and i would not necessarily want to use a 4x4 ecu on a 2wd car

do a search on here for abs faults, theres a few posts from a bloke called 'john@work' who knows his stuff.
basically check the resistance of the sensors at the ecu etc.
for the light to be on permanently, not just coming on when you brake or start moving, its going to be either a sensor open/short circuit, brake fluid level switch (was the fault with mine, level good but sensor dodgy) or fault with the abs module.
im guessing its the yellow light staying on not the red?
