is it a solid or COB?

can be caused by the painter not giving enough flash off time

As said, moisture in the paint (from the air lines) or using cheap plastic car cover as have this problem myself.

Only cure is take back to metal and repaint

Unfortionatly it's a case of getting back down to the problem, repaint!
Solvent pop has many causes- too fast paint thinner,to fast hardener, not long enough flash off times between coats, baking to early, too heavy coats.

Solvent pop is not caused by moisture, it's name gives you a clue as to what causes it lol.

Are you asking about solvent pop or microblisters? Solvent pop happens pretty much when it's painted and baked, as the name implies the solvent is forces its way to the surface whne the heat is applied. Micro-blisters are caused by moisture that has been trapped between layers so has been painted over, they can show up a number of years after the car has been painted, usually in cold weather when the water freezes and expands. I have a car at the moment that was painted about 4 years ago and has been fine but the recent snow has caused micro-blisters all over it.

If the cold weather has bought them out then it's moisture in the paint, not solvent pop. I'm a bit of an expert in this field now

Can also be caused by dirty water being used in washing down areas after wet and drying.
I had a car with this all over, a mini ended up in court and he paid someone else to do it, had to take to court again to get money out of him even after judgement!!
The dirt decays and gives off gas which lifts the paint in blisters.

I cant tell you what causes it as i never got to the bottom of it on my old mk2 granny but the fella that painted it for me reckoned it was a reaction to the old cellulose(sp?) paint allready on the car
Mine started off with a few small blistery bubbles on the bonnet and wings and i was told the only way to stop it was to go back to bare metal. The problem was after being in the oven having the front painted again, other problems appeared like micro blisters and cracking on other previously unaffected parts of the car.

Solvent popping is usually caused by painting on top of a layer of basecoat before it has properly flashed off or 'cured'. When you buy paint you can usually find a technical data sheet on the manufacturers website which gives you recommended flash off times under various atmospheric conditions i.e. in an oven/room temperature. If you don't follow these and apply another layer the solvents from the first layer haven't had time to disperse and force their way through the top layer of paint, causing the holes you've described. It's pretty nasty and unfortunately the only way to solve it is to do it again.

Lol, Martin we are both in thee same boat when it comes to paint and refunds ( money from a certain person! ) had so much bad luck it's unreal mate.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the areas where it's happening are on the tailgate and bonnet I spoke to a painter who is on here often, he believes it's down to the primer which I honestly believe is true due to the shell and kit including bonnet and tailgate were painted separate! And there is no sign of blistering on the shell, in any case am still not happy you pay money fir a job done properly and get shit! Hope people learn fome this and get proper tradesmen/ good companies who will redo the work or refund your money!!!!!

The place that sprayed my Sapphire Cosworth did no wet flatting at all, everything apart from the final flat and polish was done dry as they claimed wet flatting could cause micro blisters in the oven due to the porosity of the primer.

Dry flat is the modern way for sure
I've been wet flatting classics for decades though and never had one of my own jobs let me down
