Default Tesco's error 40 liters for unledded for £4.04

yesterday i was up in Huntly i filled up my tank which was properly empty for £4 or so i thought got in to pay and they told me there was a computer error and i had to pay £50.36 not £4 as the punp read

I'd have taken a pic of the pump reading and played hell with it

I always thought you only paid what the item says and if they try and charge anything elsa it is there fault not yours...

well its compter error and they cant sort it blah bla blah its all over local pappers so theres apparantly nowt we can do about it

Nope, if they charge you the wrong price then they can't do anything about it, but if they advertise the incorrect price, no contract has yet been made between buyer and seller so they are within their rights to charge you the right price!

I dont think the price advertised was incorrect? It was an error made by the pump so the OP should have only paid the 4quid or whatever it was.

I would of tried the line "I only wanted £4 of petrol and stopped when it got there"

Doubt it would of worked but you never know

The pump is calibrated in litres, and the price is clearly advertised per litre on the signs outside etc, so even if the pump price was wrong I suspect you probably were liable for the correct amount, but I bet if you had kicked up enough fuss you could have got away with it, but then its a case of if its worth the hassle just for 45 quid or whatever.
