I wonder with kitcars like this that with the modern generation of cars all being computer designed, it would only take a copy of all the cad images for every componant then some fruit loop in a garage plus 10 years and he could build 100% identical copys for a fraction of the price. particularly as the decent rare supercars tend to spiral upwards in cost when over 10 years old.
anyone want to hack into paginni, ferrari or bugatti's R&D computer servers??

they are called toolroom copies, exact duplicates made by specialists of things like C and D type Jaguars etc but value wise they only fetch about 10% or even less of the value of the real deal, lots get faked up though using IDs from long dead cars and then passed off as genuine.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
amazing build but whats even more amazing is the fact someone with that skill and talent builds it in his basement and then has to dig the side of his house up to get it out

............
I can guarantee a toolroom copy of a c or d type would easy do way over 10% of the value of a genuine one but in general you are right.
The bloke who made this Lambo rep has done a cracking job dont you think, visually its tremendous from the outside.
Inside lets it down tho

"toolroom copies" As you call them would be good dailys compared to the super rare almost undrivable originals.
eg something like an F40. The originals are Ł300k plus as a minimum and are rare enough that you really wouldnt want to put one into the tyre wall at a track day
where as if someone did a 100% identical replica (except perhaps a later ferrari engine for reliability) for Ł100k then you could happily drive it round a track all day having just as much fun as with an original if not a bit more, safe in the knowledge if you prang it its just a copy.

i would love something like this. Im not ashamed to say it. As a boy i had pics of these on the wall. Even to build one that looks like that, but with a small turbo'd engine (2.5 turbo or something) and have loads of modern technology in it. Rear reversing cameras, proper dash, modern braking system etc.
Something cheap to fix.
Even built over a stretched lotus elise chasis would be good. but with a tuned vag lump in the back or something. Wouldnt be too fussed about it sounding the same. Never seen one going down the road, and probably never will. From clips ive seen the genuine ones dont sound all that to me anyway. All the read ups ive read have said the genuine cars are actually quite shit. Poor rear visability, uncomfortable, noisey, boaty. Typical 80's car.
with a modern drive, classic looks. = perfect
one day maybe.......
would never be to this standard though.

noticed that.searched here regarding kit car builds as i know its frowned upon........ but its a childhood dream. Like i said i bet the real deal drives, handles shit.
i wouldnt be able to do anything near this fellas one, but im looking into using a lotus elise chassis..... not far off measurements........
lotus countach
front track 1440mm 1535mm
rear track 1453mm 1605mm
wheel base 2300mm 2500mm
The width would be fine as im sure the wide lambo wheels would fill the difference...
as for the length your only talking 200mm. This could be done with a spacer to space behind the cab where it bolts to the rear frame.
The lotus is a very good base car.Much more modern and very light. There are also loads out there converted to 1.8t 20v vag lumps. this would be the engine i go for. 450bhp is quite easy to get out of them.....and is much lighter that a proper countach engine and box.
i will definately dig deeper nearer the time i take the project on though...

Have to say that, that is an amazing piece of fabrication. The chance too to make it just how you want it and build something special. I'd be happy with a fraction of that talent!
Wonder what it's insured and taxed as though...?
