Mondeo 3.0 V6 ST220
What are they like on fuel??
I'm looking to buy either a
Mondeo ST Tdci
Mondeo ST220
Focus Tdci
around March/April time and I'm noticing the petrol Mondeo's are a cheap find,
BUT are they worth it with the fuel economy?? surely can't be any good,
or should I stick with an oil burner!

Mondo St tdci is an awesome car. Quick ish and 40mpg average no matter how you drive really. Reset the mpg computer on the motorway at a constant 70mph and get in the 60's for mpg.

Tdci is better for economy BUT,as stated before, one big breakdown I.e pump/injectors is going to set you back Ł1000-1500 and a whole load of hassle.
At least the v6 is pretty robust and none of the silly probs mentioned above.also, their a good Ł2000 cheaper so a lot boils down to the mileages your doing really, after all petrols 5p a litre cheaper equating to about a gallon more per tank on petrol.
The emission based tax makes it interesting,I'm pretty certain the 220 is in a higher tax bracket than the derv and again insurance is going to be a shade cheaper on the derv I'd guess?
Guy next door to my unit has ran taxis for years and he uses 1.8 Mondeo petrols as he rents them out.he works his on pence per mile rather than miles per gallon and the petrol works out cheaper,no belt, plugs every 30-40k,no major repairs, cost of fuel etc, makes sense for high mileage stuff.

Mmm......
I'll be lucky if I do 4000 miles a year in it. I don't use a car for work, only on a Friday when I get the shopping in and over the weekend with the family when we go places.
I know of 2 people with the diesels and they swear by them but I don't know anyone with a petrol :/
So the typical mpg for a V6 ST220 is around 28mpg?
That's not too bad really.

you should see 25+ depending on how heavy you are with your right foot. if your only doing 4k miles a year, buy the 220. the ST TDCI are great cars if your wanting to do a lot of miles, they go well, but you cant beat a V6, the way they sound and go, is worth the less MPG IMHO. plus you will get a 220 a lot cheaper than TDCI
