You remove the center and undo the nut underneath, however you will need to remove the airbag in the process, so FIRSTLY disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes for the airbag to discharge, having one of these deploy in your hands is not something you would want to happen!

guessing you have an air bag there is two small holes on the back side of the wheel that will be a torx or a small bolt heads once un done then undo the main bolt but leave bolt in lose and pull on the steering wheel then remove make sure you have your wheels straight and you do not turn the clock spring under it as it will brake and you will have no horn and airbag

what are you trying to do

What he said about leaving the nut loose is important if the wheel is difficult to remove, else you will end up with a broken nose!

It's just something Ive heard before I think they have a capacitor, hence letting it discharge, may be wrong.

Would I be able to remove my steering wheel of my mk5 fiesta and put a s1 rs turbo wheel on instead?

I think it's a myth waiting for a period of time after the battery is disconnected to remove the airbag. Once the power is off, it's off.

The other steering wheel will fit, if the spline is the same.

It isn't screws you are looking for, it's two holes about 8-10mm diameter.
A pair of torx bolts or similar live inside these holes - you push your bit into the hole till it engages with the bolt, and then you unscrew.

As for the airbag, my mechanic chum told me that if the ignition was off there was no power to the airbag so disconnecting the battery wouldn't change anything which makes sense.
I still undid the battery and waited though, just in case. It cost nothing to do that, but could have been expensive if he was wrong!

an airbag will not explode in your hands so dont worry, iirc the bolts holding the airbag on are at the back of the wheel and can be seen through two small holes, they are 5.5mm boltheads so make sure you have a socket of that size

There is someone always going on about what you should or shouldn't do with airbags as you are removing them from the car

It's common sense to disconnect the battery, as you should do when working on anything electrical.

It's also said you should wait a short period before disconnecting, I know I certainly woulden't risk injury but trying to save a few minutes!

I never bother removing the battery before I've ever done them. Never heard of any going off under removal either
