Default Removing saph turbo...??

Hello,

Well as you might know im new to engines as such and i wanted to remove my turbo...

I have took off the 3 bolts on the exhaust bit BUT the 4 bolts on the bottom on the turbo look a cunt...

Should i try my best and remove these or is it best to try and remove all 60,000 bolts on the manifold then take it all out and remove the turbo?

If it helps its a 4x4 and the engine is in the car so i cant get around properly.

Many Thanks Eigdoog.

It's a knuckle skinning pain of a job, I ended up grinding and bending spanners to fit. But it is possible without taking the manifold off.

It's a bit of a pig to do but it is possible to do without taking the manifold off personally I think its harder to get the manifold off than the turbo istelf, always manage with a 17mm stubby spanner.

Manifold is way easier imo.. easier to get to all the nuts and you dont have to piss around when trying to put it back together mate

Try 5 hits should do it

its entirley down to you mate.. just make sure you soak the nuts/bolts in wd40 over night makes a huge diffrence.

You talking about the four bolts with the 12 point heads facing downwards? I jack up the car, loosen the engine mount, jack up the engine and use a long extension bar from underneath lying on the floor. Horrible fucking job.

yeh heating metal makes it expand so the manifold will expand from the bolts

not a noticable amount to look at but works a treat

also put some wd40 on before you start
it wont take long to penetrate

and if they are really super tight try tightening them a bit more being very careful and that might help to crack them off

but yeh really heat the bolt around the manifold

He is on about the 4wd manifold bud, the 2wd one is a piece of piss in comparison IMO.

Glad you said this because I was wondering what all the fuss was about.Did mine piece of piss smoking fags drinking tea and chatting,oh wait a min that was after I realised I didn't need to undo the four 17mm's
Just the 6/8/12 star or whatever they are (10mm socket) all done.
I did think the only difference was the snail positioning though, slacken and spin ?.

on a 4wd manifold you simply un bolt and remove the compressor snail first
this will give you easy access to the 4 turbo retaining studs and the oil pick up pipe
but what do I know

Dosent that depend on the turbo?

Or is it the same theory for all of them?

ive recently done this on mine, but cant remember exactly how i did it but it is possible without cutting any spanners. drop the alternater and oil return from the turbo and it gives you a bit more room if i remember correctly! it just seems that you dont seem to be getting anywhere fast but you get there in the end.

i just take the manifold off on 4x4's i find this easier allthough a couple of the manifold bolts can be a pain to get too but a stubby 13mm spanner should see you right

So it took me something like 2 days to find out that taking the turbo off alone is a bad idea and the manifold is REALLY easy to take off, It took me less than an hour to remove as 5-8 of the bolts were lose...

The gaskets on the manifold are i think fucked as two are spilt into two bits now.

I have broke 3 spanners and smashed some glass bent a ratchet (so it broke the glass)

How it looks now

The red is the one that i just could not get to as every spanner is to big.
The blue one would have made like easy but the bolt is now round... so a spanner wont work

Thanks for all your help guys

Many Thanks Eigdoog.

get your self a 2wd manifold for when you refit as they flow better than 4wd and will make life easy if you need to take it off again
