help needed regarding paintwork please
hi well basically its the first time ive bothered with the car since the mot ive just give it a wash nd ive noticed theres oily fingerprints all over it and i just cant get them off no matter how hard i scrub them really let the car down there on the bonnet wings boot and doors any ideas people cheers
im dodgy with that sort of stuff got myself a machine polisher ect too scared to use it mate lol probs burn through the paint or whatever can you do anything wrong using it? another thing off topic just went to my lasses in the car and it seems to drive soo much better dont know what it is but just feels more responsive ect since the fueling been changed
Oily? Try washing up liquid or non-scrubby swarfega. This will obviously remove any polish or wax too, so I'd give it a quick polish afterwards.
I've also used Autoglym tar remover, not very good on tar but pretty good on oily marks.
I'm certain a clay bar would work well, but give fairy liquid a try first
(I used meths on my old van once, cleaned the area really well and didn't damage the paint... but it might yours!)

Can't go wrong with the clay bar mate...just wet the area you want to clean, then rub the clay bar over it...I did the mondingo with it and the paint felt like glass! BUT including washing, claying and polishing it took 5 hours!

Clay bars are really good.Ive done my cossie, the wifes fiesta and my dads focus. They are really easy to use.I have a squirty bottle which i wet the panels with then rip a bit of the clay off and crunch till it looks a bit like a pan cake lol. Then just rub it on the panels. You will be amazed at the dirt they pull out of the paint.
I took a pic of the clay bar when i did my wifes car.I will post the pic up in a bit.

I have the auto glym clay bar kit.Ive polished the wifes car loads of times.I thought one day when i clay barred mine that i would have a go at hers.
This is a pic of just some of the dirt it has pulled out of the paint.

This is the shine on it after it had been clay barred then i used auto glym polish then the AG HD wax.

it is oil isn't it? and not brake fluid? ie not eaten into the paint?
Claybar's are very easy to use and the benefit is that you are removing the grit and grime and not dragging it around the paint as you polish as the shite sinks into the clay.
In short, wash the car to remove excess dirt, then use the spray lube the claybar comes with and wet the panel and with the clay car softened up (pop in warm water for 5 mins if in cold weather) rub back and forth across the panel, and as you do, you will feel the resistance become less and less until it is gliding, then move onto the next area, always keeping the area lubed up. Dry off and polish up.
The bonus to it is that after you have done it the finish feels silky smooth and polish will go on and come off MUCH more easily and with better results.
Well worth doing and unlike t-cut, it is not removing paint, just taking out the shite from it.
