impreza people
is there any external differences between the blocks/heads on a uk 2.0 engine and an sti 2.0 engine.
reason being ive just got an impreza in that has apparently had an sti engine fitted.i think its just had the inlet manifold painted red(wrong red).
havent looked for engine number yet as its dirty!

only tyre ra hand 5th injector
engine wise if its a sti v3 then it should sound like a diesel,,,, but also so does a fucked impreza engine pmsl
i couldnt tell the difference if im honest, not to mentio there aint usually much room to have a look about
why would you fit a STI engine though ?
oh v1 and v2 had the coil on plugs, v3 and v4(96 to 97) have then coil in the middle and v5 and 6 (98 to 00)have it off to one side and the manifolds dont fit the earlier ones i was told,,, not sure how true but then do have different inlet gaskets ( yes ive bought the wrong ones)
oh and the V3 has yellow 440cc injectors,,, but again get swapped

But in general yes the STI heads/cams are better, but not massively so.
Block, crank and rods are same on all cars. Pistons on the STI's are better, but there is nothing wrong with the std turbo pistons.
So really...wouldnt worry too much.

Visually, very little on the actual block is distinguishable... its usually bolt ons like turbo and intercooler which are the dead giveaway on these.
Being a 1999 UK Turbo, it should already have the 440cc injectors fitted as standard. I wouldn't worry about the colour of the manifold, because to be honest, I've seen cars getting built engines from reasonably well known garages having a dodgy re-paint of the IM done rather than the proper crackle effect red paint.

crackle,,,,, wish mine had enough paint on it to look crackle, just looked red and faded on the small specs actually on it,,,,,, there is more paint in the engine bay that fell off the manifold
but now its painted performance blue,,,,, a ford colour and suits the hoses now too

Haha you aint alone mate, I've seen reasonably new IM start to lose paint... In fact, I was cleaning the engine bay of my '07 STi to get all the delivery waxy shite off it after I bought it. I was using one of those sponges from the kitchen, yellow with a slightly tougher green topping (the detailing world boys will love this ) and there was some crap that wouldn't come off so switched from the yellow to the crusty green bit; it removed the waxy stuff and some paint too as a wee bonus. Was just lucky that it was in a place not noticeable or I'd have been pissed right off.
