Yea, but then you started banging on about wanting a limited edition one like a P1... christ almighty Kevman, the P1 is a limited edition UK car with a straight 5-speed box instead of the JDM Type-R with the DCCD box!! Come back when you've got a Subaru WRC Jacket sunshine, ok?!
I take it you're ignoring the fact that Stuart Cosworth will mock you at every given opportunity if you buy a Subaru... trust me... I've been there and he NEVER stops.
Cheers,
Grant

I went out in a 500 hp GT35 P1 with 6 speed box when went with a mate to scooby shootout and it was stupid the way you could pitch it at a corner, it would stick, grip then boost - guy had 10 pot tarox brakes and remote res coilovers on it, serious dough but very fast.

only driven standard classic and bug eye wrx's but tbh i loved both of them, as someone said above, the way they just grip into the tarmac and boost mid corner and still grip is just something else. - probably much the same as any performance 4wd, but i've only driven scoobys in the perforamance 4wd field.
That said, i know a few chaps who work/have worked at a subaru dealer, and tbh they don't have a single good word to say about them

Ive yet to see an original Subaru bodywork rot to the extent there are holes in it.
As for the gearbox thing, DCCD isnt needed. And regardless of DCCD or non...if it's a 5 speed, it aint gona last long.
Only box to use is a 6 speed

Totally agree, the 6 speed boxes can handle big power and the Zen time attack car was using a 6 speed with an H shifter pattern!

right just got back from pub with him,its got a 6speed box aswell,a fooking huge intercooler,a 2.5 engine in it,said the bare block and work thats gone into it stood him at a few grand, massive brakes, antilag and its 470bhp with 525lb/ft torque, reckons its cost him 20grand to build it,ill try and get pics next time i see it.

My mates got a Zen built RA, really nice car, only has 400hp, runs a DCCD 6 speed, cucso diffs, 6 pots and Buddyclub coilovers.
It does owe him a fortune but then its a well sorted track weapon if he would stop buggering about with a drift car he has lol

If i had to choose what car i'd want to pull out the garage on a sunny saturday it would be the cossy all day long

Im an ex cossie boy Ram...
Thing is, the car is so capable 400bhp feels tame next to a 350bhp saff. Hence im still wanting more power. Even 6 years later im still trying to fill the hole of excitement that the cossie used to give me.
Maybe im looking at it through rose tinted glasses as i was only 19 when i bought that car.
But hey, it will always be the car i loved the most by a country mile!

Post 2003/4 Sti should come with 6 speed and DCCD. DccD is a good but not essential.
My last couple of Imprezas were a Spec C, Type 25 and then an old S202 (early spec C with no dccd but it did have sti pillowball set up and lsd's) they ranged from 320 to 380 bhp.
Even with 320 bhp (genuine figures not pub talk figures) a Spec C will absolutely fly and the handling is superb, not to be confused with a regular Impreza wrx etc the special edition quick ones are terrific to drive, no understeer. With a genuine 400+ would be an absolute rocket ship on the road.
The 2.5's give more torque but dont have the same urgency as the 2.0 spec C unit, the 2.5 doesnt like to rev as freely (also they dont have the durability of the spec C 2.0 which seems bullet proof but the 2.5 even with upgraded pistons etc is not that strong).
It starts getting very expensive to get past around 380 bhp even using a spec C or Type 25 mk1 as a base, if I was buying another one I'd avoid the 2.5 unless its built with the very best of everything (ie a new block, best pistons available etc).
