my 08 focus tdci is very hit and miss in the snow as the traction controll is over sensitive and cant be turned off .i used to go every were in my old 2.8 capri many years ago and for this year i have an xr4x4 2.9 to play with should it snow down here in wales

I was having a chat with someone at work about fat tyres vs skinny tyres on snow and ice the other day, on ice there shouldn't be much difference between the two as F=mu.R so as you reduce the contact patch you increase the resultant force, so friction in theory stays the same, this may not be linear with the change in contact patch though. But in snow skinny tyres win as the tyre stands more chance of going through the snow and finding tarmac....
It never worked for me though, fat tyres were definitely worse than my stock skinny ones! Snow tyres by all accounts are meant to be well worth it, but im yet to put my money where my mouth is.

Land rover discovery td5 is faultless like. Goes anywhere had snow up past bumpers last winter and still ploughed through it. Can't wait for it again this year lol
