What is the Ford equivalent of the LS1 V8 ?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
the old equivalent would be the small block 302 or 351 winsor, also known as the 5.0 or 5.8, but if you want modern, alloy block and 32v heads you want the modular 4.6 or 5.4, i'm building a very high hp 5.4 at the moment, with a big supercharger or twin turbo 1000bhp is a drop in the ocean and not a lot of money to build, if you just want 300bhp in a very revvy engine get a cobra 32v 4.6, early ones were factory 305hp, from 99 they went to 320hp, and in 03/04 they were supercharged 390hp.

Ideally it would be an all alloy variant, simple with no turbo/supercharger.

yeah ive looked into this ,
frankly with out spending some big cash on a alloy block , theres no off the shelf ford v8 to rival the ls series engines,
windsors will fly in , the cobra lumps do fit as tinm garringtons got on in his escort ,
the 32 valvers are stupidly wide !!
still considering an ls tbh , considerd the yb for a year then pull it out , flog it and get a ls ,
jay you got a tremec ?????
richie , theres off the shelf sumps for the gm series engines to relocate the pick up and sump to the rear if your going the 2wd engine bed route
drop me a pm fella

Some good info on this thread regarding different sumps and external dimensions for the LS engine
http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...n-Escort/page2
My small block Ford will have cost me more than the price of a good LS engine by the time it's finished and will make less power bugger

4.6 cobra 32v. Alloy block and alloy heads as standard. very easy and cheap to tune!!
I can measure the width as got 3 builds on the go at the mo and I'm sure Martin will measure his LS for you, I'd personally go with the easiest to get in the hole, Both can make great power and most people will only note that its a V8 rather than what brand it is
Martin's LS didn't appear to be much different in width to the ford modular.
The 302 small block is a nice size engine but the CAST steel block makes it pointless for an S1..

I just love the brutal simplicity of the design of the LS engines (ie single cam in block and 2V per cylinder) and the way it is combined with awesome strength related technology like 6 bolt mains.
Its got everything you want/need and nothing that you dont.
Just totally epic.
Ask any Yank and they'll tell you all the quick fords are chevvy powered anyway!
