im building a 1600 zetec se turbo engine for my kit car, it used to be n/a
i have a fuel pressure reg from before 3 bar with a vac port on the top, will this work ok with a turbo setup or does it need to be different?
next i have a gt2871rs turbo is it worth fitting a pre turbo oil filter inline to it? if so where can i get one from
finally , im not a fan of dump valves, do i need to run one or will the turbo be fine without i dont want to wreck the turbo people opinions seem to vary on this i think
thanks

next i have a gt2871rs turbo is it worth fitting a pre turbo oil filter inline to it? if so where can i get one from. I have never bothered with one to be honest but it wion't do any harm to fit one. I think Reyland sell them as well as GT turbo fitting kits.
finally , im not a fan of dump valves, do i need to run one or will the turbo be fine without i dont want to wreck the turbo people opinions seem to vary on this i think. If you only want low boost pressure I don't think it'll be an issue to not run one but it is always advisable to run on. I'm not a fan either and currently don't run one but I think for my turbos sake I will run one eventually.
thanks

i have been running a gt2871 for the last two years now , it has always had a dump valve fitted but never had a pre oil filter, never had any probs with it and its done over 20k now.

Im with him, agree on the dump valve as well low boost pressure your probably ok (Which due to your engine choice I am guessing it will be?) You will get alot of replies about the DV as there are alot of opinions.
Basically it dumps the exess boost pressure to the atmosphere (Assuming astmospheric DV) hence the noise and the name when the throttle is closed. You can always run a recirc DV is you wanted to they have no noise.
Without one this is forced back through the turbo, you then end up with the compressor stalling, this is the fluttering noise named "Turbo Chatter" NOT wastegate chatter as the uninitiated call it. This stall's the turbo and puts a strain on the turbo in the process and so shortens the life. So a DV also improve's performance.
Let me know how you get on, I would like to know what these engines are like turbo charged.

thanks martin,
it not a low boost setup will be around 20-22psi, i have a look around for a recirc item maybe a turbosmart one or something like that
