You would need too buy as many kits as you needed all with the correct bulbs iirc that's the only way I can think of

A decent set of uprated halogen bulbs will give you a better light output. Used a HID kit a few years back, failed MOT due to no beam pattern and although it was a really white light, was no brighter than the philips blue vision halogen bulbs i replaced them with!

i have went with a 6k hid kit on my mk5 fiesta the color looks the dogs but doesnt light up the road anymore than a set of decent headlight bulbs and when you have xenons it is very hard too find sidelight bulbs too atleast get any sort of color match would steer clear of xenons from now on

hid vs xenon will only have one winner, and that's the xenons

the hid kits don't actually have any pattern so even though they give out loads of light, comparing the mondeo with the hid kit and the xenon fitted it's like night and day, but with sunglasses on if that makes sense

if you can get another set of escort headlight units and build a proper xenon kit inside them they you should be sorted

Nothing worse than a car that doesn't have xenons as standard with an aftermarket kit on. Looks awful IMO and often just dazzling to other drivers.

They aren't legal now. Mind you technically under UK law HID kits just aren't legal full stop, retro fit or standard equipment. EU Type approval take presedence though which is how the standard fit gets away with it.

As far as I have been able to ascertain there is rumour that lamp type will be checked as part of the MOT but this is only a whisper and to the best of my knowledge has not been verified by any credible source. Until then providing there is a beam pattern and the alignment is fine there should be no reason to fail.

tbh its swings and roundabouts, the fact remains old escort lights are like candles which are useless in lanes etc, will prib opt for uprated bulbs or something as didnt really want diff colour bulbs just wanted decent quality lights so i can see the road lol.

Got HIDs on mine cant beat them, and if you get a good kit the ballasts are tiny and can hiden very easy.

you would be better fitting a proper xenon kit off a car that has them fitted as standard should be able to get them from scrapyards

why dont you fit the twin spotlights which sit above the bumper, i had these on an orion 1600i ghia mk 3 back in the day.. uprated headlight bulbs and spotlight bulbs running through a relay... job done. also you can direct the spots to light up higher or however you want them.....

Dojj, HID and Xenon lamps are the same thing...

HID bulbs are filled with Xenon gas, and Xenon bulbs won't work without a high intensity discharge ballast controller.

I tried HIDs in my S1, and took them back out after a week. Absolute shite for the lanes. They created a clearer light but just didn't light up the road as the beam was so concentrated in 1 area. I just made sure my fuse box had a decent power supply from the battery and refitted the halogens.

paul you gotta remember you have old reg headlamps which means you are ment to use 80w headlamps and not 55w due to the lack of reflector pattern

i understand they are the same thing mate, but a retro fit kit in your standard headlights dones't have the same lamp unit as the proper kit so won't produce the same level of clarity of light

think of it as going from the escorts vhs to dvd, with the xenon being the bluray

Regardless of how well the technology is put to use, they are the same technology, which is not what you said or implied.

HID uses Xenon to provide an ionised path for current to flow, of which roughly 85 to 90 VAC flows between 2 electrodes via the ionised Xenon gas. To ionise the gas, a high and sudden current overload is requred to create initial ignition, hence the term High Intensity Discharge.

The kit I had at the time was from Hids4u, think I paid somewhere around Ł150 for it, money down the drain!

but thats like saying you are going to run your ps3 through all the fancy amps and stuff and then play the games on an old black and white 14 inch crt telly

the xenon headlights as fitted to cars are standard are set up to make the most of the bulbs and technology, retro fitting the lights into units that are not designed to do what they are supposed to do is the same thing

as far as i see it anyway, having done the hid upgrade to the standard mondeo headlights and then gone and fitted proper factory xenon lights, the beam pattern and the light you see when you are driving at night is much better
