Default Extrenal internal hard drive cases

I've got a few hard drives that are in co liters that are past their sell by date now that have stuff on them so I want to pull the drives out and stack them up to use in a different computer hence the need for a case to put them in (a caddy?)

So which ones are the easiest option to use, USB ones or some fixed to the computer slide in tray types? Got about 3 drives I want to sort out

it they are in desktop pc's dojj - you need a 3.5 inch caddy - easy to install too. just open and pop drive in and job done - just need to make sure the connector is for the same type of drive but you can get caddy cases with multiple plugs to take diff drives.

These 3.5" will require power from the mains too

How much data is stored on them?

1 + 2 TB drives are so cheap now, it might be a lot less of a ball ache to copy the stuff over and use one of them? I just bought a 1TB for Ł42 from pixmania here.

Probably not far off the price of something to stack your current HDDs in!

The problem is that one of the hard drives is fucked and the other is clickity clacky like a fucker and I've got 2 computers sitting about doing nothing, so ideally I would want to put 2 new hard drives I to the 2 computers that are doing squat, but seeing as I'm now faced with the problem that the hard drives will need an operating system, I can't really be arsed in paying more and more for that so I just want to get the stuff off the drives.

Reading c and bs thread earlier I don't want to boot this drive up into the main computer and then have issues with it but then again I don't want to spend money on getting two new operating things on th new hard drives.

You can tell I'm a novice can't you

can I get free windows 7 or something like that to whack on or can I use a back up instalation disc from another co outer to start these other 2 up?

And what will I then do with 3 computers?

And yes I want everything for free
