ive owned a c20let pal and i dont like them, Chips c20 engines are built properlly using good parts, fair play to him.He has experience with them and Yb's and many other lumps, il ask him which he prefers actually
Standard c20lets are shite imo, alot weaker than a cossie YB, plus a YB would of been a v easy swap compared to that c20let, mounts are the same and type 9 fits onto the block.

The C20LET is actually a VERY strong engine, especially in standard or mildly tuned form, so im not quite sure why you think otherwise mate. Unless you had a shitter of course. Ive had a few and all have been pretty much bullet proof.

they aint strong at all on standard rods and pistons, plus porous heads had to be helped out by cosworth hence the coscast, the rod bolts snap if you run above 20psi on a k16 then they stretch as i found out, the kkk16 turbos arnt very good, and iirc i dont think ive seen a standard c20let over a Genuine 300+bhp and last a while.
My c20let was built my chris astley and lasted 2k miles, apr rod bolts, new mahles, cometic 1.9mm, recon k16, xe inlet cam and adjustable pulley, eds ph2,actuator, tx Ł2 downpipe and exhaust, etc... lasted 8 days in my ownedship

Oh and if i remeber correctly (its been a few years since i was into vauxhalls ) the porous heads are not a problem on the LET, that was only a problem on the XE's.
Like any engine really, if its maxed out or poorly done, it wont last long.
Standard, mildly tuned, or modified properly and within its limits and you shouldnt have much to worry about.

Yes im sure some earlier LET's still used the GM head, but im pretty sure the later LET's and the majority had the coscast head. Sounds like you were one of the unlucky ones. Oh and i dont have a ford anymore, its even worse, i actually own a bmw.

Good for 300bhp all day long set of arp's and a decent head gasket, had one in a nova at that power with sccr box, did many track days a lots of road miles, all built at home never missed a beat and still going strong after 4yrs, turbos are shite though and the coscast is the one to have but early gm's can be repaired easily.
Great fun in a small vaux/ value for money, cheap/easy to built up to that bhp.
