Default F1 - 1.6 ltr CVH's from 2013.

OK, not quite CVH's, but they're going 1.6 litre turbo four pot route for 2013.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/9255871.stm

The sport will switch from the current 2.4-litre V8s to 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engines with energy recovery systems and fuel restrictions.
The new engines will not do more than 10,000 revs per minute - current F1 engines spin at 18,000rpm.

I want 21,000 rpm V10's back. Turboed.

Don't worry, they'll soon be getting 700bhp out of them..

Woops,, just read all the article and they will be 750 anyway.

F1 engines in the mid to late 80's were 1.5 litre turbos and in qualifying they were said to be around 1500bhp! I don't know how accurate that figure really was though.

I think its good that theyre going this way. A change was definetly needed imo, especially having the kers function back. Will make mundane races such as Abu Dhabi more interesting as it gives somebody a chance to overtake instead of be stuck behind somebody for 50+ laps

Yep back In the day 1400-1500 bhp in qualifing , this is when fuel stops were introduce as the cars could not do full race on one tank

I think anything that spices it up is good on another forum i go on theres the arguement for bringing back ground effect aero aids with the tracks being some what safer and the fact you can make ground effect aero with a flexible skirt around the car i could see it been alot safer no so i'd be a fan of it coming back

As said the old engines were pushing silly power with turbos on!!

On that note anyone ever see ron dennis's 911 with a tag turbo lump shoved in the back?! Fucking awesome bit of kit!! Saw it at a car show we had at work earlier in the year!! Shame its prob never been on the road

Don't forget, the old 1.5 litre 1500bhp engines ran on some very nasty fuels.

One of which was incredibly carcinogenic

I notice they also said they will restrict fuel delivery, possibly through injector sizes or similar.

Will be good to see a kick into turbocharger development again though

Not completely sure I agree with the way all this is going with the standardised 1.6 'motorsport' engine used for just about everything, it's yet another bit of nominal cost saving which makes manufacturers less likely to take part.

I doubt anyone can point at a major championship where standardisation and cost reduction made more of the manufacturers compete.

Still, it should make some pretty serious engines available for reasonable money given the quantities that will be churned out.

Or maybe not, given some people think Ł25K is a reasonable price for a very slightly tweaked production VAG engine for motorsports use...

The 1500BHP engines of the 80s only used to last about 4 laps though. Proper grenade spec. When they raced them they detuned them to 5-600BHP or so for a bit of longevity.

Personally, I'd have liked the new regs to be 2.0 Litre Turbos. Would have spiced up the hot hatch market no end!

Rons 911 was a gift. AFAIK it hasn't even seen the road. IIRC it's kept at the storage facility (not at MTC )

I think whoever posted that on YouTube will find it's a h16 not a v16

I lied, they did the h16 much later, just the 64 valves

IF they want to promote economy, they should give TOTAL freedom on engine choice, the rules should simply be that your car must meet the minimum weight and you are only allowed X litres of fuel per race, up to you how fast you make the car just bear in mind that you need the economy as well to last the distance

If you think the fuel pressure is low check the oil pressure, lol

I doubt any of those sensors were connected to anything meaningful as the fuel pressure cant be lower than the boost pressure or the fuel wouldnt flow

190 ftlb of torque at 1.7 bar from a 1.5 litre engine implies to me that the boost figure is an absolute one in that instance, so only 2.3 bar at the top end.

Thats a long way off what the real figures during the race would be
